We are looking for a number of Software Engineers(Front End) to join Aviva Ireland's growing Digital programme on a permanent basis based here in our Galway office.

We strongly believe that high quality software engineering and craftsmanship is vital to achieving this and we want passionate software engineering professionals to help transform Aviva into the world’s biggest fintech organisation.

The past number of years has seen Aviva transform it’s approach to product development embracing innovation events, agile and lean software methodologies to embed a test and learn culture across the organisation. We are working hard to build the software and architecture to enable this business need and we want you to help us. You will be working in a newly created agile space specifically designed to deliver on Aviva’s digital first strategy aiming to become the easiest insurer in Ireland to do business with.

You will be responsible for

• Develop of front end applications using Responsive Web Design with modern JavaScript and CSS frameworks
• Build maintainable, reusable, scalable and secure CSS and JS code
• Upholding JavaScript and CSS best practices and TDD
• Supporting & sharing best practice with team and internal front-end community
• Work in Agile team (Scrum, Kanban) – estimate effort and work in team sprints
• Implementing web accessibility guidelines
• Executing responsive web design principles and techniques.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have a commercial experience in a number of the following areas:

• Knowledge of modern software engineering practices, such as Test Driven Development, Behaviour Driven Development, Continuous Integration (Jenkins, Maven), Code Analysis software (Sonarqube, jshint, Checkstyle, PMD)
• Active in online developer community, contributor in Github
• Extensive experience in building modern scalable web applications
• Excellent technical expertise with Web development technologies including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript
• Working knowledge of one or more modern front end frameworks (AngularJS, React, JQuery, Bootstrap)
• Excellent knowledge of industry direction and trends within Web and Mobile application development.
• Deep understanding of client-side performance techniques
• Experience building RESTful applications
