Senior Counsel – Legal

This is a great job for someone who has experience of dealing at senior management level, and who is a technical expert in areas of law relevant to specific responsibilities.

A bit about the job:

As a Senior Counsel your role is to act as senior legal adviser, providing first class legal service to relevant areas of the business and predominantly leading in complex legal initiatives and projects (including oversight and advice on key legislative and common law developments affecting the business). You will assist the Head of Legal in proactively monitoring and mitigating legal risks in accordance with the Group Legal and Company Secretarial Standard (“the Standard”). The successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic thinking and direction in respect of legal advice for a particular area of the relevant business unit. Alongside this we are looking for someone who is confident in communicating to wide range of stakeholders and ensures communication is timely (written and verbal), and who is able to negotiate / influence outside of team and is comfortable to challenge at peer level. In addition to this you will play a key role in representing the legal team at project steering committees and other forums.

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

Proven ability to provide legal advice for major projects, negotiations and relationships with third parties and external advisers

· 
Broad understanding of the relevant regulatory environment.

· 
Strong oral and written communication

· 
Ability to provide technical leadership, and transfer knowledge to “up-skill” legal teams through coaching.

· 
A solicitor entitled to practice in the UK or a relevant jurisdiction.
