The Risk Business Partner, Aviva Business (Commercial Insurance) and Enterprise Risk supports the VP, Risk Business Partnering and the Chief Risk Officer through reviewing, challenging and catalyzing improvements to the management/mitigation of risk within Aviva Canada.

The Risk team assesses the full spectrum of risks and combined impact of those risks as an aggregated risk portfolio, is responsible for the review and challenge of the business’s assessment of these risks and provides business leaders with Risk’s independent opinion of risk exposures, risk profile and actions which should be taken to manage and mitigate risks through strong business partnering.

The Risk team has responsibility for putting in place the vital mechanisms to ensure that the risk appetite and governance frameworks are aligned with the strategy and are used in decision-making across the business. This role supports the VP, Risk Business Partnering and the CRO in ensuring that Aviva Canada operates within the approved risk appetite framework and that the appropriate culture, governance, and oversight arrangements are in place to manage effectively the risks to achievement of Aviva Canada’s objectives.

What you’ll do:

· 
Providing pragmatic and commercial risk opinions and guidance to support our business objectives using balanced risk aware decision making, identifying material changes in risk profile.

· 
Highlighting the projected governance paths for decision making and providing support to the Business as decisions progress.

· 
Continuously ensuring the customer is considered in all decision making.

· 
Supporting the business in monitoring the wider landscape providing the multidisciplinary view across the risk spectrum for current and emerging risks.

· 
Advancing breaches in risk appetite / limits and material issues and providing business leaders with Risk’s independent opinion of the risk profile and actions which should be taken to manage and mitigate risks.

Insurance Risk

· 
Lead all aspects of, review and challenge Canada’s risk appetite framework, ensuring consistency with Group requirements.

· 
Provide challenge, review of and support to Canada’s insurance risk management within the Aviva Business team, including but not limited to: reserving, pricing, product development, underwriting, strategic project and broker/partnership deals, major change programmes and reinsurance risks.

· 
Oversight of methodology of relevant business standards and provide regular challenge and review to assumptions and outputs.

· 
Provide review, monitoring and challenge of Canada’s Commercial insurance risk profile.

Risk Reviews

· 
Carry out the second line responsibilities in the Operational Risk and Control Management through engagement with first line Risk Owners and Control Owners in risk and control assessments, issue and risk event management in the Aviva Business and parts of the Finance team

· 
Carry out thematic reviews of current and emerging risks, including liaison with AIL Risk and Group Risk on issues that are pan-regional.

· 
Support the successful identification and assessment of emerging risks and support business leaders in identifying appropriate management and mitigation of emerging exposures.

· 
Support the Risk team on the production of the ORSA

· 
Chip in to the annual challenge of the translation of the strategy into the Business Plan

· 
Provide risk support to some areas of the Finance team through engagement in operational risks or other special projects.

Leadership

· 
Help craft risk management debate and action through proactively engaging senior collaborators

· 
Support a continuous improvement culture where lessons learned are shared across the risk functions globally.

· 
Work with colleagues across the Risk team and the business to share risk knowledge and expertise which supports business needs, developing an environment of 'no surprises' through open and clear two-way communication.

What you’ll bring:

· 
Diploma or degree in business, economics, finance or other related field or equivalent experience.

· 
Actuarial, Underwriting, Accounting, RIMS Fellow designation or equivalent designation is considered an asset.

· 
A graduate degree or equivalent experience (e.g. MBA) will be considered an asset.

· 
5-10 years of demonstrated ability in property/casualty insurance industry with dynamic professional experience.

· 
Experience in Commercial Insurance or Finance businesses areas.

· 
Risk management experience will be considered an asset.

· 
Experience of operating at senior manager level and of influencing senior management and other partners

· 
Relevant financial services sector experience and experience of working in a regulated environment.

· 
Proven experience in exercising good judgment in decision-making.

· 
Strong communication and relationship leadership skills.

· 
Good understanding of business processes, operations, and insurance principles and practices.
