Role Description
We have a number of roles based in our Dublin office which will be in our Actuarial Operations Support (AOS) team who support the Customer Experience team by helping them to respond to customer and Broker queries. We make sure that we treat customers fairly by testing our compliance with actuarial standards.
We take responsibility for risk by assessing the risks and controls for the whole finance and actuarial department and for the Life Inforce Management business standard. The team consists of the Business Actuary, the AOS team lead, 3 trainee actuaries and 2 intra students. The role holders will report into the Business Actuary.
About Role
The purpose of the role is to Care More by supporting the Customer Experience teams and by complying with actuarial and business standards.
The role also involves providing actuarial support for projects within the company once experience in supporting Customer Experience teams has been obtained. This aspect of the role results in the AOS team working with stakeholders in other departments e.g. IT, Compliance, Risk and Customer Experience to deliver projects within a timely and efficient manner.
The risk management aspect of the role is very interesting. All of the team are involved in operational risk management in terms of logging risk events, root cause analysis and sharing lessons learned. The team also has an excellent control framework around the end user computing tools used.
The professional development aspect of the role in also very interesting. This team provides support to two signing actuaries – the PRSA Actuary, an independent consultant and the Disclosure Actuary, an Aviva employee. We are the only team within Aviva Ireland who provide this professional support in terms of local Society of Actuaries in Ireland Standards of Practice. Other teams provide indirect support to signing actuaries in the UK.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain actuarial experience, business experience and a high level of responsibility quickly.
A greater level of responsibility is given to trainee actuaries on this team than on other actuarial teams. Their work output has greater potential to immediately impact customers, brokers and the company’s reputation. The work is the most wide ranging and interesting of the actuarial teams because it requires both business knowledge e.g. company’s products, systems and procedures and actuarial knowledge e.g. actuarial concepts and systems.
The work is more challenging than that of the pricing team because it requires an understanding of the customer’s history with the company to date as well as an understanding of their expected future experience.
On the job training will be given by the AOS team leader. Extensive procedure documentation and process maps are also available for reference. Graduates will be required to complete a Quality Assurance (QA) test during their training period. This involves answering a range of typical customer queries. When they have successfully completed the QA test they will be signed off as being able to respond directly to mailbox queries.
The Role holder will
• Respond to mailbox queries within defined service level agreement turnaround times
• Carry out quality assurance testing on the work of other team members
• Provide evidence of customer disclosures to the signing actuaries
• Test the implementation of changes to systems or spreadsheets
• Identify the root cause of errors and suggest process improvements to prevent recurrence
• Provide actuarial support for projects within and outside the department, engaging with colleagues in different departments.
About You
Ideally we would like the successful candidates to have an Actuarial degree with some work experience preferably in a life insurance environment.
You will have good communication skills because you will need to explain your results to non technical teams. You will have the ability to work as part of a team – the team needs a combined effort to function. You should have competent IT skills – in particular Excel spreadsheets are used extensively by the team.
