Group Manager Prototype Workshop

  • Göteborg, SWEDEN

Job description

Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future. If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.

Are you inspired by cutting edge technology, hands on engineering, and the opportunity to lead teams that turn ideas into reality? If so, this may be the perfect role for you.

THIS IS US, YOUR NEW COLLEAGUES
At the Verification & Validation (V&V) department, we are looking for a Group Manager for our Prototype Workshop to join us on our journey toward securing customer success. V&V is part of Global Product Development at Volvo Buses, where we build and maintain test objects, plan and execute tests, and transform data and knowledge into insights needed to shape the buses of the future.

As part of the V&V management team, reporting to the Director of Verification & Validation, you will join a skilled, collaborative and supportive group of colleagues. We value trust, teamwork, and a positive atmosphere where people enjoy coming to work. Here, you will have the opportunity to grow both professionally and personally in an environment that encourages curiosity and innovation.

ABOUT THE ROLE
In this position, you hold a central role in Volvo Buses’ innovation journey. This is where early ideas become physical prototypes, rigs, and buses, the foundation for future sustainable transport solutions. You will lead the daily work and long term development of a talented team of mechanics who support our verification and validation testing as well as our development vehicle fleet. You will ensure the workshop is not only operationally strong but strategically integrated and business-oriented.

Your responsibility covers the entire workshop operation, from prototype builds, rebuilds, maintenance and test drives, to ensuring that everything is executed with precision, safety and efficiency. You will manage planning and resource allocation, navigate shifting priorities, and make sure the workshop consistently supports fast learning cycles and high quality deliveries.

You will also drive the development of our workshop capabilities, including machines, tools, and inventory, so that we can meet shorter development cycles and evolving customer expectations. Improving workflows, strengthening safety, and developing smarter methods and processes are important parts of the role. It is both strategic and hands on, giving you the opportunity to shape how the workshop evolves while staying close to the products and people who bring ideas to life.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We are searching for an inspiring and technically driven leader who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys guiding people and operations toward shared goals. You bring experience from leading technical teams, ideally within automotive, heavy vehicles, mechanical engineering, or prototype development. You understand workshop operations and fabrication methods and have a strong awareness of health and safety requirements.

You communicate with clarity, build trust naturally, and enjoy creating structure in complex situations. You are motivated by enabling innovation, supporting learning cycles, and removing obstacles so your team can deliver their best work. You value competence development, team culture, and the satisfaction that comes from seeing people grow.

We look forward to receiving your application as soon as possible, as we review candidates continuously.
