JOB PURPOSE

· 
Responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and improvement projects in Engineering Utilities equipment that includes Power Substation equipment, Generator Set, Distribution panels and transformers, Steam Generation and Distribution system, Compressed Air and distribution system, Water Generation and distribution system, Air Handling units, aircon units and other non-factory equipment related to Utilities, to support the delivery of operational KPIs (Productivity, Quality, Safety, Health and Environment, Cost, Delivery, Morale, Innovation and Sustainability).

The Utilities Multi-Skilled Technician should demonstrate technical mastery of Mechanical and Electrical/Instrumentation and Control Engineering disciplines as applied in his area of assignment and demonstrate analytical skills in operation and maintenance to provide consistent and stable supply of steam, process water, compressed air and electrical power. Supported by the core skills to work within an autonomous team, the MST consistently adheres to established Engineering Code and Standards whilst driving continuous improvement through employment of analytical problem solving tools and techniques to achieve KPI targets on Safety, quality, environmental compliance and utilities reliability.

The MST will have basic understanding how the business operates, understanding the losses, cost drivers, and compliance in energy and environment standards of usage and emissions.

The Utilities MST provides immediate leadership responsibility in assigned area through leadership by example and coaching of single-skilled craft technicians. The MST is responsible for all team reports within his shift assignment.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

World Class Manufacturing - Understands WCM philosophy, targets, losses and costs, to drive improvement in utilities performance. Keeps a critical mind and able to adhere to SOPs and SMPs. Can adapt to new technologies to drive competitive advantage. Good working knowledge in Professional and Autonomous Maintenance (PM and AM) Steps 1 to 3 and able to implement its principles.

Technical – Technical mastery of the Mechanical and Electrical/Instrumentation and Control disciplines to Maintain, Improve and Repair (OMIR) utilities equipment. This allows Utilities KPIs on Safety and Quality to be achieved.

Safety, Health and Environment – Follows and utilizes all appropriate safety, health and environmental procedures and protocols (ex. COVID-19) relating to the Sourcing Unit and allocated equipment to ensure a safe working environment for the whole team. Performs Safety Behavioral and Covid-19 Behavioral Observations as part of the daily routine.

Workplace Hazards - Full knowledge of the workplace and hazards within it. Utilizes all appropriate safety and environmental procedures for people, processes, materials, products and equipment relevant to the task.

Environment - Reduces environmental impacts and costs associated with utilities, chemicals and product and operational wastes through maximizing eco-efficient operation.

Quality and Food Safety – Compliance to Food Safety and Hygiene protocols (Dry Floor Policy, Machine CIP / COP, Line GMP, Top 5 for Zero compliance, CCP and OPRP compliance) and monitors quality against set standards (Ice Cream GMP, HACCP, Ice Cream Micro, FOM Control, FSSC 22000 and related PRPs) and reports any issues as part of QBO and Quality incident escalation process. Detects process abnormalities quickly and takes emergency action to prevent them through the timely accomplishment of Q-EWO and CAPA.

Focused Improvement - Use performance measures to identify and prioritize losses in Utilities. Leads the team in Kaizen projects using analytical problem-solving tools and techniques.

Leadership - Promotes the development of a highly effective and autonomous team through strong communication, leading by example and effective problem solving and conflict management. Maintains focus on goals and targets.

Coaching - Champions specific skills within the semi-autonomous and autonomous team and coach them to others to drive excellence.

Business Awareness - Understands the need to meet changing demands of consumers and the role of marketing and product innovation in supporting growth strategies of the business.

Administration – Leads shift manning coordination to arrange shift and break cover, induct new employees and address performance shortfalls to ensure that team resources can meet operational requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

· 
Graduate of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation and Control disciplines or any related Engineering course or have completed Unilever’s Multi-Skilled Technician Training Program

· 
Preferably a licensed engineer or a Registered Master Electrician or a Certified Plant Mechanic or Certified Instrumentation Engineer.

· 
Graduate of other technical/vocational course with proven necessary aptitude to enter Multi-Skilled Technician curriculum through demonstration of basic mechanical, electrical and instrumentation knowledge and ability to perform problem solving in an engineering environment

· 
Ability to organize, lead and coach a team

· 
Reading and comprehension skills in English

· 
Arithmetic skills

· 
Basic English verbal and written communication skills

· 
Required to support report writing, data analysis, problem solving, mechanical and electrical calculations, leadership and coaching skills.
