SALARY: £31,000 to £38,000 plus excellent benefits

MAIN JOB PURPOSE:

The main purpose of your role will be to influence design strategy and development through a suite of predictive digital methodologies. The Simulation Engineer understands, interprets, and applies design solutions by either carrying out or managing the virtual testing of pack concepts before tooling. You will also be responsible for recommending product design changes for manufacturing, functionally and supply chain. Depending on your experience, you will also be responsible for improving existing tools and techniques as well as advising on the direction of future capability developments. Your expertise will allow you to apply knowledge in product lifecycle management, various CAE domains, and related tools to identify, develop, and implement improved integration and communication. The Simulation Engineer must demonstrate characteristics which foster team progress, show diligence in daily tasks, manage multiple work streams, takes the initiative to take on challenging assignments, and has the will and ability to create opportunities.

JOB SUMMARY

Engineering Analysis specific

· Drive optimisation, robustness, sustainability and functional performance of packaging solutions through the use of high-end computational analyses.
· Directly influence key stakeholders internal and external on behalf of project teams with respect to simulation output.
· Promote the effective and seamless integration of simulation capabilities throughout the entire packaging development process.
· Work to translate and direct project requests into optimal manufacturing and performing solutions.
· Translate technical requirements into simulation plans and working briefs.
· Support areas of the business in the interpretation and decision making using results of predictive analyses.
· Collate and develop simulation best practices and to ensure these are transferred across categories.
· Manage and develop laboratory testing pertinent to characterisation and validation activities.
· Appropriately influence key stakeholders on behalf of the project team.
· Lead charge in finding new and better capabilities and vendors to partner.
· Ability to come up with new solutions based on analysis and modify designs for evaluation.
· Perform risk analysis to align design objectives with business objectives.

Key Working Relationships:

· Design Engineering Leader to learn from and support in daily business
· Project Leaders to align day-to-day project work with capabilities of design and other functions
· Cross category CAE teams to keep up to date on the latest simulation work
· Formulation to align the specifics of the formula (development) with the design of the packaging
· Supply Chain to understand the manufacturing complexities and equipment requirements when designing for production
· Packaging Engineering to align about the resources needed to deliver the right design solution
· Consumer Technical Insights (CTI) to be on top of latest and valid insights in technology
· External partners like design agencies and engineering partners to ensure that the design is meeting the right requirements and quality
· Strategic Sciences to keep up today with the latest High Performance Cluster (HPC) initiatives
· Packaging Excellence to align capability developments with the Digital R&D roadmap

· Demonstrate organisational and business awareness by engaging with key customers, understand requirements, develop and deliver briefs and driving work with a leadership mentality ensuring appropriate influence is exerted.
· Provide program area information as required e.g. resource/technology requirements.
· Facilitate elements of meetings/workshops and deliver training on materials
· Support the selection and management of external partners.
· Create, develop and implement best practices for expertise area.
· Manage transition of project work x-pillars at key touch points.

KEY REQUIREMENTS
· Minimum qualification of a degree in a relevant subject (Design/Engineering/polymer science) from an accredited college or university.
· Good working knowledge of Finite Element analysis (FEA) is essential
· Good working knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) & Design of Experiments (DOE) are desirable
· A good understanding of FMCG R&D and packaging process. You may be required to operate prototyping tools and equipment.
· Experience validating virtual testing.
· Competent in one or more areas of numerical and computational simulation
· Experience in Packaging, Design, Engineering, Polymers and other Consumer led industries is highly desirable.
· A broad understanding and appreciation of design process from concept to realisation.
· A good understanding of manufacturing techniques.
· Confidence to autonomously assess and use design, engineering and scientific judgement to define tailored approaches to projects and program.
· Experience of one or more of the following analysis programs highly desirable: LS Dyna, Abacus, Radioss, Hypreworks, Star-CCM+, Nastran, Moldex3D, Moldflow, Ansys, Scripting, Unix, HPC usage, Minitab.
· Experience in 3D cad modelling, particularly NX software.
· Ability to clearly communicate important &/or complex information to stakeholders, projects teams and external partners in a simple and fit of purpose manner, using appropriate media.
