Job description

Business Context and Main Purpose of the Job

The R&D centre for Personal Care in Shanghai is responsible for product development and deployment for Unilever Personal Care business of North Asia including Skin cleansing, oral care and deodorant categories.

This individual will be responsible for product development for Dove Skin cleansing product for North Asia including China mainland, Japan , China HKTW etc. He or she will support both global & regional innovation/renovation/value improvement projects, along with miscellaneous product deployment tasks for Dove skin cleansing business, North Asia.

Key accountabilities are:

·  Lead end to end product development tasks (45%)
·  Lead/support Dove claim workstream tasks (35%)
·  Coordinate innovation network and ensure key deliveries against milestones and SCS (20%)

Detailed below: 

A) Lead end to end product development tasks:

·  Global portfolio formulation modification with local insights and execute quality/function evaluation test (stability test, challenge test, foaming evaluation, etc)
·  Lead claims work stream on concept co-creation, new claim assets generation against different channels , claim clearance & compliance with China LCF and claims supporting test (clinical, consumer tests etc) and dossier generation.
·  Lead Demo creation and MKT activity technical support for innovations.
·  Lead all CSAR compliance documentation, safety assessment, FDA registration prep. for innovations.
·  Cooperate with cross function RD BG-BU teams on sensory evaluation work, consumer quali/quanti study, PKG compatibility test, pilot scale up work
·  Monitoring key competitors new launches, quarterly tracking full formula analysis and formulation costing
·  Manage new product specification, use LIMS ,PLM to manage RM and product lifecycle.
·  Raise clearances such as patent/regulatory/SEAC

B) Lead/support D ove claim workstream tasks

·  Lead/support claim workstream tasks across mass to premium products innovations
·  Support/coordinate other NAsia BU and China export business with claim support
·  Lead team expertise build on claim capability

C) Co-ordinating innovation projects and SCS:

·  Ensure Formulation/claim/process tasks are executed as per project network timelines
·  Represent as key RD contact window in project team meetings
·  Support or act as Technical Project Leader in project management activities & engaging with multiple functions such as brand, finance, Supply Chain etc
·  Lead low to medium complex project
·  Provide technical expertise to support supply chain trouble shooting

Within R&D:

-BG x-function RD team including formulation, CTI, PKG, fragrance, SEAC, Spec

-BU x-function team including CTI, Packaging, Regulatory

Outside R&D:

BG & BU Mkt team, CMI, Supply Chain, Finance, manufacturing ,Legal

Key Skills

·   Major at Chemical Sciences  and Engineering related, Master’s degree preferred
·  Ability to manage and coordinate multiple tasks
·  Ability to read into consumer insights and translate them into product development
·  Good team player. Can seamlessly manage multiple interfaces in projects
·  Good communication in English
