We need a number of visionaries to lead the robotics movement in Engineering, responsible for driving our ambitious robotics, digital and automation revolution across all of our geographic clusters. We are looking for people who are able to work to solve real-world challenges that by doing so transform our customers' experiences in ways we can't imagine yet. You will therefore be a thought leader in the field of robotics, leveraging best practice from the external environment and someone who is able to ‘bring the outside in'.

MAIN JOB PURPOSE

The role reports to the Chief Engineer for Unilever and will form part of the Global Engineering Leadership Team. You will be responsible for engaging with stakeholders both inside and outside Supply Chain for defining both short and long-term plans. The Directors will be responsible for building robotic capability across Unilever working in tandem with our Manufacturing Excellence teams.

Key deliverables will be the step up in automated solutions for 7500 applications in 3 years across the end to end supply chain resulting in a step improvement in productions costs and efficiencies.

Leverage the value of robotics, digital and automation to drive innovations in this field, reducing production costs and time in Unilever's factories globally

Establish robotics governance model and ensure it is integrated with Unilever's overall strategy

Lead the adoption, deployment and scaling of robotics through stakeholder engagement

Identify, prioritise, and scope opportunities to deliver automation and robotics with stakeholders across the organisation and oversee project delivery across the lifecycle

Manage successful implementations across the robotics lifecycle from design to deployment

Ensure the very highest engineering standards and processes are implemented and are aligned to global specifications, considering cluster specific requirements and needs

Ensure assets are designed to comply with Unilever's safety, quality and sustainability standards and practices such as SRMF and PHA, HACCP and QMS, and LEED certification

Translate strategy into implementation programmes to deliver market competitiveness, innovations and savings through Manufacturing Technology

Lead and manage outputs from cross-category technology platforms & discovery programs

Create and manage capital budgets for initiatives e.g. Eco Efficiency/Energy Programmes

Ensure effective link with R&D and factories for innovation

Maintain strong links to the engineering world internally and externally ensuring best practice robotics technology and knowledge is available to Unilever

Ensure technology harmonisation, convergence, simplification and flexible manufacturing

This is a Global role and therefore travel requirements mean that travel averaging up to 10% of the time can be expected.

KEY INTERFACES INTERNAL
Engineering process will encompass the key group functions to ensure that all operational aspects and imperatives are covered in depth as part of asset standard designs and project design activities. Alignment and engagement with the full Engineering community is key, and the role will provide leadership and then also rely heavily on the capabilities of the R&D, Cluster & Factory Engineering teams when innovations, technologies and major projects are deployed.

KEY INTERFACES EXTERNAL
The role will develop strategic partnerships under the Partner to Win programme, with for example, equipment suppliers, industry forums, consultants and academics / thought leaders in the robotics and technology space. The role will also work with key partner suppliers for category technology and across categories as required.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Engineering degree or equivalent

Project management skills (Post Graduate and industry certified courses beneficial)

Strong communication (verbal and written) and networking skills (interpersonal and planning)

Analytical, financial and business management skills. (Post Graduate and industry certified courses beneficial)

Design for Manufacturing (DfM), Design of Experiments (DoE) and WCM concepts

Knowledge of the extended Supply Chain and how it works

Business finance and economics – with a deep appreciation of the impact of Capital equipment ownership on the business.

Working knowledge of a Category Supply Chain organisation

Experience of leading Supply Chain innovation at a global level

Ability to leverage external best practice to develop and deploy new solutions at a global level

Track record of project delivery of at least €10m in capital value

Previous regional or cluster level responsibility

Strong networking skills both internally and externally

Strong analytical skills

Ability to lead and work in both global and virtual teams

Ability to build critical skills globally and develop key talent

Areas of relevant experience:

Significant experience in Engineering and Technology with a thorough knowledge of manufacturing technologies

Knowledge and experience in Quality in Innovation for Manufacturing

Proven track record of preparing machine / process stream specifications and machinery project management networks, risk profiles and execution plans.

Good understanding of the materials conversion processes

Literacy in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project software
