Business Context and Main Purpose of the Job
· With the new Compass landing in Unilever, we have entered 5 Divisions with clear growth strategies and priorities. The Integrated Beauty & Wellbeing (B&W) and Personal Care (PC) Science Technology (S&T) Platforms is the important innovation powerhouse and play critical roles to provide disruptive technologies for superior products in both B&W and PC Divisions to well service consumers again and again.
· S&T Platform-Material Engineering is one of S&T Platforms focus on developing planet positive ingredients that cosmetically repair and enhance the properties and function of oral, hair and skin substrate for both B&W and PC categories.
· This global role, based in ME Platform with PC as focus, is to develop new technologies for personal care products application in Inorganic Bioregulation Big Bet Area (BBA) in ME.
Main Accountabilities
· This research associate role is based at Shanghai ME team in Shanghai R&D Centre. He/She is expected to develop disruptive technology innovation within ME team, especially on anti-perspirant efficacy for Deo and/or Enamel remineralisation or dentine desensitisation for Oral Care. The innovation will cover new active discovery with focus on novel functional materials, the prototype development, in vitro and in vivo evaluation method development.
· The key responsibilities of this role:
· Generate new technology ideas based upon robust hypotheses/insights and carry out experiments.
· Evaluate the product efficacy with in vitro model.
· Delivers effective reporting of scientific data, including peer-reviewed publications.
· Presents work at meetings (internally and externally).
· Communicate and work closely with global R&D team to incorporate new technologies into products.
Critical success Factors for the Job
Key Skills
· Strong academic background and R&D experience in in Material Science, Inorganic Chemistry, or relevant areas.
· Awareness of business innovations – be able to drive from science discovery to new technology development.
· Be pro-active and self-motivated to engage with project leaders and team members.
· Be creative. Have team spirit, strong responsibility and clear logistic thinking.
· Proficient in both written and spoken English.
Relevant Experience
· PhD or Master in Material science, Inorganic Chemistry, or related areas.
· Working experience in FMCG industry would be a plus.
· Knowledge on sustainable materials and related evaluations will be a plus.
