R&D Apprenticeship in Chemistry with Fragrance; 4 years fixed term
Location: Port Sunlight Research Lab
Salary – £14964p.a. in Year 1, rising annually to £24836p.a. in Year 4
STRUCTURE
R&D Apprentices in Chemistry with Fragrance will report to a line manager within Unilever R&D UK. Apprentices will be based at Unilever R&D Port Sunlight, Wirral, UK. Apprentice line managers will be fragrance specialists within the Global Design (Product Development) part of the organization and be based in either Home Care or Personal Care. The R&D Apprentices will work in project teams within R&D that deliver innovative products to millions of global consumers every day. They will experience all of the functional areas necessary to deliver great products and will work within at least 3 key areas over the duration of the Apprenticeship.
Unilever R&D Chemistry Apprentices will:
1. Undertake an R&D skills learning programme
2. Develop R&D skills appropriate to a modern FMCG environment including formulation, processing, packaging and consumer understanding.
KEY DIMENSIONS
• The primary focus will be on the development of personal and R&D skills and competencies within the boundaries of the apprenticeship programme.
• Year 1 of the programme requires part time (1 day per week term time and some evenings) attendance at a Wirral Metropolitan College to complete an HNC course in Chemistry. Years 2, 3 & 4 of the programme requires day release / block release at a The University of Liverpool to complete a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry. Academic tuition fees will be paid by Unilever.
• The overall objective of the programme is to deliver a range of skills and competencies to meet the technical requirements of the business.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must have a genuine passion for Science and its application to the world around us. Unilever R&D Apprenticeships are based in a fast-paced complex team environment with a high workload so we are seeking highly-motivated candidates with an aptitude for team-working. Candidates should have three A-level passes at a minimum grade of C (or equivalent qualifications/or be awaiting results) including Chemistry. All candidates must have passes at GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
For the Chemistry with Fragrance specialism, we require candidates with a high level of olfactive acuity so this will be assessed as part of the application process.
