Quality Engineer

Background & Purpose of the Job

The Quality Engineer role is critical to the development of our factories to World Class, which means zero defects, zero waste and zero losses. She/he will apply extensively the full range of Focused and Quality Improvement methods and tools to counter losses identified in quality as well as support in other functions. As well as partner with the Global Virtual Site to replicate best practices.

Develops and implements validations, testing, inspection procedures and statistical analysis to incoming materials, in process and finished products to ensure product compliance with GMPs, food safety, and company specifications. Researches product defects recommending modifications in products or standards and prepares necessary reports and action plans. Partners with material and packaging vendors as well as R&D to drive quality improvements and VIP savings.

Provides coaching in phenomena identification, root cause analysis and the establishment of counter-measures for D-Incident investigations.

The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring compliance with UL and regulatory agencies QA standards for all innovations in trials. The Quality Engineer is the point person at the factory and will act as the leader for all Trials and innovations. This includes holding external stakeholders accountable to trial timeline and protocol, managing quality sampling and monitoring, collecting data and reporting final outcomes and next steps as well as overall cost management.

Who You Are & What You'll Do

The Quality Engineer reports to the Quality Manager at the factory, the quality department also consists of a Quality Supervisor. The Quality Specialist, four Quality Technicians and four Environmental Cleaners report up through the Quality Supervisor.

The Quality Engineer will interact and partner with many different departments and job functions on a day to day basis including Engineering, Production, Maintenance, Safety, WCM, Innovation Planning, Brand, R&D, and external vendors and suppliers.

This position will strive towards becoming the subject matter expert in all trial, innovation, world class manufacturing, statistic and process control tools, focused improvement, and packaging and material specifications. The Quality Engineer will also spend their time partnering with both the reginal virtual site and global virtual site to bench mark best practices.

Key Deliverables for this role include :

Eliminate quality defects according to the WCM prioritization process using FI and QC pillar tools and methodologies.

Full ownership ensure all trial and innovations deliver either consistent or improved quality or OEEs.

Trial completion on time and in full, ensuring compliance with UL and regulatory agencies QA standards.

Drive improvement in OEE and reduction in Waste through packaging and raw material quality improvements.

Reduce Consumer Complaints through stratification of loses and completion of focused improvement projects and D-Incident deep dives.

Identify and extend good practice from Global Virtual Site to Suffolk Lipton Tea Factory.

This position is very much project base and daily activities will vary. They will include participation in innovation and trial meetings and discussions, weekly meetings with packaging and ingredient vendors and oversight and leadership of trials on the factory floor.

This individual will also spend much of their time collecting data, analyzing data and leading focused improvement teams as well as implementing world class manufacturing for Quality at the site.

You're a teacher: Must be able to indirectly influence peers and hourly workforce to gain buy in for improvements and change related to WCM and key focused improvement projects.

You're a changemaker: Consistently seek out opportunities to drive improvements, reduce inefficiencies, eliminate defects and reduce costs both within quality and the factory as a whole.

What You'll Need To Succeed

University Degree Required

Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical Engineering

Experience in statistics and process control tools.

Experience in AM, PM, Quality and FI tools and processes.

Prior experience in Manufacturing.
