Job description



As a Process Technologist, you will be responsible for process development activities and the implementation of innovation and cost improvement of new and existing products. Includes pilot plant and factory trials, tests and measurement activities resulting in the effective and efficient delivery of trial results, product prototypes and technical reports. You will work closely with Technical Project Leader, Product Technologists and factory process Engineers for project delivery.

Main tasks and decision-making requirements of the role:

· To be the processing expert responsible for developing, capturing & sharing of process methods, parameters & plant know how across the business
· To develop, install, commission and maintain the Pilot Plant & associated equipment used by the team to develop world class product and process designs in a manner consistent with local and Unilever SHE requirements
· Coordinate the design, development and commissioning of world class factory processes for the manufacture of innovations (both in house & third party)
· Identify improvements and changes to plants that will increase their capacity to handle new innovation and technologies
· Ensure the effective introduction of a portfolio of new manufacturing processes to Unilever plants (in-house & 3rd Party) via trials and other technical studies with minimal supervision. These can vary in complexity and scale
· Ensure the timely and effective communication & resolution of issues affecting process scale-up
· Ensuring the safe & effective design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of pilot plant facilities and other tools used to deliver world class innovation in budget. This includes the procurement of funds from senior management
· Generation & dissemination of process expertise on Unilever plants and their interaction with current & future products through both formal & informal activities including technical workshops, troubleshooting teams, participation in global networks
· Training of new and existing R&D personnel in the safe operation of pilot plant facilities & the execution of processes used to scale up lab processes into plant
· Support the generation of costs / benefit analysis for improvements based on modelling
