We are seeking a self-motivated individual with knowledge/experience in Chemistry or related field, who has well-developed research and critical thinking skills, and sound decision-making abilities, with attention to detail to consistently produce accurate work.
About the role
As a Patent Information Analyst you will be responsible for supporting the Patent Attorneys in all the Patent Group locations, by carrying out patentability, opposition/validity, and freedom to operate searches. You will conduct patent search and analysis using a variety of internal and external tools, evaluating the results for relevance and creating comprehensive search reports, often to challenging deadlines.
You will work in a team to provide information on recently published patents and applications to Patent Group and R&D, provide education on the use of end-user patent databases, and evaluate new search and analysis tools.
Where appropriate, on-the-job training will be provided as well as external courses on the specific aspects of patents and patent searching.
Key responsibilities
Working as a team with the Patent Information Analysts as appropriate:
Main Executive Tasks:
• Preparation of search strategies for carrying out searches of appropriate databases
• Identification of relevant patents and applications to report to Patent Attorneys.
• Writing search reports indicating why the patent documents are relevant for that particular search request.
• Providing legal status information where necessary.
• Editing Patent Alerts and keeping the search strategies up to date.
• Giving input to competitor intelligence process when requested.
• Carrying out searches for Designs.
• Assessing new search tools and developments in databases used by the Patent Information Analyst team.
• Contributing to the development of procedures for the team's operation.
Information Requirements:
• Keeping up-to-date with developments in information systems, databases and patent classification.
• Keeping abreast of changes in laws and practice relating to patents, designs and utility models throughout the world.
Planning:
• Planning of own work in relation to preparing search strategies and carrying out searches, and carrying out other information tasks.
• Planning in conjunction with Patent Attorneys to prioritise searches to meet their deadlines with R&D and the Business
Essential experience, skills & qualifications
• Chemistry related degree
• Strong communicator who is adept at requirements gathering and report writing
• Well-developed research and critical thinking skills,
• Sound decision-making abilities
• Self-motivated individual with excellent time management and prioritization skills
• Able to work alone but also a great team player.
