JOB PROFILE

MAIN JOB PURPOSE:

Marketing Technologists in Unilever play a crucial role in enabling our digital and other marketing technology strategies. Our ambition is to be the best marketing company in the world. We will be present wherever the consumer is, engaging them in ‘always-on' digital experiences that penetrate the culture and build brand advocacy. The role seeks to forge strategic partnerships with leading edge digital media suppliers and agencies and asked to deliver best in class services and IT platforms to drive efficiency and simplification, join up activities and improve digital planning, execution and measurement. It is important that the Marketing Tech manager is close to new technologies as these will be used to inspire brands technology innovation.

The Marketing Tech Manager to Personal Care is primarily responsible for partnering the global marketing teams. This role will play a key part in developing the overall brand and category rollout plan and ensuring development of regional and local activation plans in alignment with agreed priorities.

This position provides technology, project management, and privacy and security expertise for the digital component of category driven brand marketing plans. The role seeks to act as a trusted, independent advisor to our brands and regularly reviews agency statements of work and progress against plan throughout brand digital projects. Program Planning also works closely with Media, PR, CMI, Shopper Marketing, and a large number of external suppliers on brand projects.

Digital technologies and channels are always rapidly evolving, as are this teams services. The areas of concentration in Digital Program Planning span Paid (e.g., media buys, paid search), Owned (e.g., websites, mobile, apps, and email) and Earned (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) media. A key responsibility in Program Planning is to identify and share best practice on digital media with brands and agencies.

This team seeks to support the brands in all their Marketing Technology needs, in many instances this team is the gateway to the brand to the broader Unilever IT organisation so it is important there is an awareness of all technologies which the marketer and brand require.

JOB SUMMARY

The role also provides provides digital agency and supplier management support and is jointly responsible with Marketing for global digital agency rosters. Digital Program Planning is responsible for reviewing digital production capabilities, agency practices related to security and privacy, as well as other general business criteria. This role also assists Marketing with annual agency reviews, and works with Legal and Procurement on contracts and pricing.

The Marketing Tech Delivery and Operations team ensures regular security scans are performed for all brand websites and microsites on 3 rd party properties. When security vulnerabilities are detected Program Planning is responsible for notifying the agency and brand, and working with the DMS Delivery team to ensure proper corrective actions are taken. If corrective actions are not taken security incidents may occur that may result in a loss of consumer data, which can negatively impact our brand image and result in substantial liability.

Program Planning is responsible for tracking all projects, actions and improvements through to completion. Educational initiatives lead by Program Planning may consist of events held in conjunction with the Media labs, presentations at annual Media Days and joint events with digital technology suppliers.

The role will work closely with IT Business Partners, who extend the reach of the Marketing Tech organisation and help identify demand. While Marketing typically funds brand digital projects, on occasion Program Planning will need to raise new capability projects in the IT funnel for funding.

While the Marketing Tech Manager does not have significant budget responsibility, the role can have very significant impact on the return on Category and Brand digital media spend. This role works under broad direction and has full accountability for own work and project/supervisory responsibilities. This role receives assignments in the form of objectives. Establishes own milestones, team objectives and delegates team assignments.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

· Provides technology, strategic, project management, and privacy and security expertise for the digital component of brand marketing plans.
· Acts as a trusted, independent advisor to the categories and brands. Regularly reviews agency statements of work and progress against plan throughout brand digital projects.
· Maintains expertise in rapid evolving digital technologies and channels including Paid (e.g., media buys, paid search), Owned (e.g., websites, mobile, apps, and email) and Earned (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) media. Responsible for sharing best practices in these areas with brands and agencies.
· Leads digital educational initiatives for brands and agencies in conjunction with Media and the Marketing Academy.
· Provides digital agency and supplier management. Jointly responsible with Marketing for global Brand Development digital agency rosters. Responsible for reviewing digital production capabilities, agency practices related to security and privacy, as well as other general business criteria. Assists Marketing with annual agency reviews, and Legal and Procurement on contracts and pricing.
· Notifies agencies and brands of security vulnerabilities and ensures proper corrective actions are taken.
· Tracks all projects, actions and improvements through to completion.
· Provides status updates and briefings on digital roadmap initiatives to Category and Brand leadership (e.g., Global Brand VP) and IT leadership teams.
· Takes responsibility for investigative work to determine requirements, impact on business processes, and identifies solutions or reviews solution proposals in agency statements of work. Provides program and project management.
· Utilizes business experience and skills to assess and advise on technical alternatives, marrying up technical capabilities with consumer expectations and brand objectives.
· Applies available standards, methods and tools in an intelligent and effective way, and produces a consistently high standard of documentation of both a technical and a descriptive nature.
· Plans, arranges and controls meetings and workshops.
· Responsible and accountable for this teams services delivered to global teams and support on regional and local initiatives driven by the category teams.
· Regularly measures customer satisfaction and identifies changes or improvements in DMS services.
· Assists marketing in defining acceptance tests for digital projects and systems, and supports their execution.
· Directly recruits and manages one or more employees with full responsibility for professional development and project delivery.
· Coordinates with broader teams resources in other regions to deliver global brand projects and share best practice.
· Liaises with IT Business partners (CTO, MCO IT) on demand.
· Creates awareness of this teams capabilities and seeks opportunities for benefit maximization (usability, exploitation).
· Jointly with the business, proactively identify impacts/risks and mitigation plans, design process planning, re-engineering and improvement methods
· Reinforces IT governance
· Streamlines IT technologies and processes and works to eliminate redundancy.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Extensive commercial experience of technology & business experience in a complex environment.

Strong knowledge of associated business processes in this space.

Strong proficiency in interest in digital technologies and channels

Strong consultation, interpersonal and influencing skills.

Demonstrated team leadership skills.

Degree from a recognized accredited college related to Technology,Business or Marketing
