Logistic Specialist

  • BELGIUM

Job description

Background information

Unilever's core business is the marketing and sales of FMCG products. In this respect, the warehousing and transport logistics operations have been outsourced to various third partly logistics providers (3PL). In Unilever BeNeFra, in the business unit Supply Chain, logistics departments have been set up in each country to manage the 3PL and to support the business with knowledge on logistics.

Logistics Specialist (15000LL6)

General purpose of the position

Two warehouses, two production sites and three hauliers are managed by two Logistics Specialists (LS) in Belgium.
The LS manages the 3PL by monitoring their KPIs, solving issues and by managing projects to continuously improve service and efficiency while reducing costs and carbon. The LS are the linking pins between the 3PL and Unilever which means that they represent the 3PL within Unilever and represent Unilever for the 3PL. It is therefore important to build a trustful relationship with both internal stakeholders and the 3PL.
The 3PL interact with Unilever's customers by delivering products at their distribution centres all the time. Customers are managed by Unilever's Customer Service department where issues regarding logistics are also raised. The Customer Service Managers (CSM) are therefore the most important internal stakeholders for the LS. By working together with the CSM, the LS has to make sure Unilever is a top end supplier for our customers. Some of the services that our customers require result in additional costs and carbon emissions. The LS has a key role in challenging these investments by analysing their impact to make sure that good tradeoffs are made together with the CSM.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

• Support building logistics capabilities for sustainable competitive advantage.
• Manage 3PL performance including reporting and follow up of in/outbound capacity, on time delivery, in full order picking, structural issues on inbound, product damage during handling, carbon footprint and costs versus budget. The LS has to take immediate action when the performance goes below agreed services levels.
• Responsible for all operational logistics process flows in the local countries. This includes the warehouses, hauliers, concessionaire customers and some local exceptional flows.
• Communicate with SC Development regarding proposed process changes.
• Manage relationships between 3PL hauliers and 3PL warehouses to ensure optimal collaboration.
• Support Customer Service by solving operational issues.
• Execute business contingency processes along with the 3PL.
• Check and approve 3PL invoices.
• Manage and initiate projects with the 3PL that continuously improve existing processes.
• Support the Supply Chain Development Department (SCD) with projects that effect the 3PL. For some projects, the SCD will hand over the complete implementation and execution of projects to the LS.
• Make tradeoffs with the Customer Service Manager (CSM) on new logistics services request (i.e. outbound labels, DESADV or palletisation) from our customers by analysing the impact and implement the services that get approved.
• Coordinate pallet management suppliers together with the 3PL.
• Support the business with logistics expertise.
• Document and expand logistical knowledge in the Customer Wiki.
• Document contract additions and SLA modifications and inform USCC.
• Support the Stock Controller with the annual physical stock count in each warehouse.

Skills & Experience

• At least 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience in Supply Chain.
• Languages: Dutch, English and French (fluency in Dutch is a must).
• Minimum Bachelor's degree, preferably in Logistics.
• Knowledge of logistics, customer service processes, warehousing and distribution.
• Knowledge of MS Office (Excel) is a must, SAP is a plus.
• Project management skills
• Knowledge of both administrative and physical logistics flows
• Valid driving licence.

Competencies

• Analytical ability
• Communication (Build and maintain external relations)
• Influencing others
