We’re establishing three Legal Powerhouses in Bangalore, Mexico City and Barcelona, which will be an integral part of the Legal Function and provide defined, structured services to our other lawyers and to the wider business.

Role purpose

To support HUL with -

·  Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and other legal documents including execution of processes and contracts related to Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Data Privacy.
·  Researching and analysing statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources.
·  Provide legal analysis and advice on a variety of legal issues ranging from sectoral laws and IPR, Data Privacy affecting Unilever.
·  Working collaboratively with other members of the legal team
·  Conduct research on legal matters that impact the company and present findings to the Senior Legal Counsel.
·  Collaborate with external legal advisors to manage specific legal issues as instructed by the Senior Legal Counsel.
·  Handling Consumer Complaints/ Grievance supervision.
·  Product Claims management.
·  Research on advocacy related to Legal Policies, Laws and Regulations and creating representations.

Governance & Compliance

·  Support the operation of governance schedules and processes for key suppliers.
·  Support the operation of required ongoing compliance activities for key suppliers.
·  Understand changes to standard clauses, and highlight deviations and risks, if outside of standard clauses.
·  Ensure the organization’s internal contract document templates are accurate and up to date.
·  Identify opportunities to improve current contract processes and devise plans to implement these changes.

Stakeholder Management

·  Support the development and management of stakeholder relationships within Unilever and with key third parties, including within Legal, Customer Operations, Procurement, Finance, Marketing, IP, Business Operations, Sustainability, HR, local Data Protection Officers and other businesses.

Key Skills

Relevant Experience

·  Professional qualification in Law, and membership of a recognised bar e.g., evidenced by a current relevant practicing certificate.
·  Adept at analyzing and interpreting corporate laws,FMCG related laws & regulations.
·  Organized with a strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
·  Excellent communication and stakeholder management.

Essential

·  Minimum of 3 years of experience as inhouse lawyer in FMCG/supplier industry or must have worked in law firms.
·  Experience of, or a keen interest in (with a willingness to learn about) sustainability contracts (e.g., funding of forest protection contracts, sustainability data gathering and processing contracts, consultancy contracts in the sustainability space).
·  Providing risk-based advice and risk reporting on different types of contracts and aggressive and defensive commercial contract claims.
·  Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to advise and influence at all levels of the organization.
·  Achieving outcomes and results by influencing the way resources and personnel not in your control are utilized.
·  Attention to detail, proven ability to draft accurately and effectively in a legal register of langauge. A test may be required as a part of the application process.
·  Ability to work with colleagues across multiple time zones, cultures and countries.
·  Willingness and drive for process excellence.
·  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
·  Fluent in English.

Preferable

·  Experience within a consumer goods or retail environment, or major suppliers to either of the same.
