Global Commodity Risk Manager: Dairy and Grains

Summary

The key objectives of the CRM unit are to strengthen market analysis and spend forecasting accuracy, and to protect the company's financial results in the most effective way. The purpose of this role is to support the CRM Director, Soft Commodities in developing the Commodity Risk Management Unit in the Supply Management function for Unilever globally, specifically leading the areas of Dairy and grains Market Intelligence.

The scope of the role will include the forecasting of butter, skimmed milk powder, corn and wheat trends and prices, plus the Commodity Risk Management of respective financial commodity derivatives, specifically swaps, futures and options. Unilever's exposure to commodity price movements amounts to several billions of Euros per annum and feedstock volatility is therefore an important driver of the market movement of our spend. Understanding fundamental and macro-economic trends is a key input into the whole commodity portfolio and therefore central to the success of the team.

The role will be based in Schaffhausen, Switzerland with occasional travel to key Unilever offices worldwide.

Your Responsibilities:

· Creation, maintenance and comprehensive analysis of supply and demand outlook for the portfolio commodities. In this context and that of the broader macroeconomic environment, derive and execute our commodity strategies within pre-conceived limits. To hold a position beyond these, draw up proposals with relative risk/ reward and present to Management.

· Provide regular strategy calls, as well as the reporting of positions/ price to key stakeholders. This often will include relaying complex information in an accessible format to senior management within the Company.

· Aid buyers in managing their physical portfolios, in addition to supervising our physical differentials on portfolios. Further to this, exploration of other potential hedge able exposures we are subject to .


· Ensure execution in compliance with accounting and other audit requirements
· Identify the potential for expansion of CRM activities into other portfolio areas
· Lead the development of external information and analysis sources – manage as required
· Develop and install optimum processes for price forecasting
· Develop optimum communication on market developments, forecasts and risks for UL internally
· Liaise closely with Supply Managers (for relevant categories) to understand requirements (volume and strategy) and ensure flow of information from suppliers
· Develop and maintain relationships with key players (inc. banks) to ensure the preferential flow of information and ideas
· Identify best practice amongst peer companies and in other sectors where appropriate
· Inspire innovative behaviors to continuously improve UL's risk management capabilities to World Class standards

What you should bring with:

The role requires independent, high-achieving, stress-thriving and strategically thinking individuals with natural authority and the ability to work out thorough and efficient solutions. Additionally, the following are requirements:

· Degree from an accredited college or university (BSc./MSc.) with emphasis on the areas of business, economics, finance, procurement finance, or comparable professional education
· Minimum of 7 years' experience of working with financial markets
· 3-5 years of experience in a similar specialist or managerial role
· Intimate knowledge of commodity trading and analysis and experience on dairy and grains
· Inquisitive problem solving mentality
· Hedging strategy experience
· Highly numerate with strong excel skills
· Ability to work in a diverse multicultural environment
· Solid and clear communication skills; able to relay complex issues in digestible format within the company
· Able to develop external network within the commodity world to supplement information flows
