The role of Formulation Scientist is to deliver breakthrough technologies and differentiated innovations to meet the needs and preferences of our consumers around the world. Within Beauty Personal Care, we are developing new technologies to provide functional benefits that out-perform the competition and build equity for our leading brands.

An opportunity has arisen for a Formulation Scientist to join the Product Engineering team within the Beauty Personal Care - Science & Technology (BPC S&T) Group at Unilever Research & Development Port Sunlight. Beauty Personal Care division is a growth engine for Unilever and the BPC S&T Group is expanding to support the ambitions of the business. This role will specialise in the areas of Formulation, Colloid Science and Product Characterisation & Measurement, which are key enablers for the success of the Product Engineering agenda. The successful candidate will join the team at an exciting time, with the opportunity to work within an environment benefitting from significant investment in new resources such as the Materials Innovation Factory (MIF) and Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMC). The role will report into one of the category groups within Product Engineering.

Reporting into a Product Engineering manager, the job-holder will use their technical knowledge to deliver on formulation, microstructure characterisation and category specific performance measures within the Beauty Personal Care S&T program. The candidate will help to further our understanding of product performance through the preparation and characterisation of formulations to generate scientific insights that deliver to project objectives. Key skill areas are in formulation, colloid science and physical characterisation of microstructures. The role will involve the development of BPC formulations, characterisation measurements and category specific evaluation methods as well as using the latest automated techniques. The successful candidate will also be expected to have proficiencies in data handling, statistics and modelling software.

Key Responsibilities of the Role:

· Identify and deliver novel functional ingredients that drive product performance.
· Develop technologies and formulas to maximise the performance of these ingredients on consumer relevant substrates.
· Work directly with extended Product Development and Marketing teams to create safe, scalable and commercially feasible product propositions.
· Work with leading academic institutions, consultants and suppliers to bring new insights and technologies from the external world.
· Seek opportunities to exploit fundamental formulation insights and technologies across multiple product formats and categories.
