An opportunity has arisen for a Product Formulation Technologist to join the Product Engineering Genesis team within the Personal Care Discover Group at UR&DPS. Personal Care is a growth engine for Unilever and the PC Discover Group is expanding to support the ambitions of the business. This new role will specialise in the areas of Formulation, Colloid Science and Product Characterisation, which are key enablers for the success of the Product Engineering Discover agenda. The successful candidate will join PC Discover at an exciting time, with the opportunity to influence and lead work within an environment benefitting from significant investment in new resources such as the Materials Innovation Factory (MIF) and Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMC). The role will report into one of the category groups within Product Engineering.

Reporting into a Product Engineering manager, the job-holder will use their technical knowledge to deliver on formulation, microstructure characterisation and category specific performance measures within the Personal Care Discover program. The candidate will help to further our understanding of product performance through the preparation and characterisation of formulations to generate scientific insights that deliver to project objectives. Key skill areas are in formulation, colloid science and physical characterisation of microstructures. The role will also involve development of PC formulations, characterisation measurements and category specific evaluation methods as well as using the latest automated techniques.

Key Responsibilities of the Role:
· Formulation and manufacture of product prototypes.
· Characterisation of formulations
· Category / format relevant method development and performance evaluation.
· Data collation, analysis and communication of insights.

Skills/ Experience/ Qualifications:
· BSc/MSc in physical chemistry, chemistry or materials science.
· Knowledge in colloid science, particularly focused on surfactant science, phase behaviour manipulation and ingredient interactions within formulations (e.g. polymers, surfactants, fragrance).
· Experience in Personal Care formulation, microstructure characterisation techniques and stability assessment.
· Good practical skills and ability to translate experimental insights into product opportunities.
· Knowledge of digital methods (e.g. DoE, data analysis/manipulation, statistics) is preferred.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
· Excellent (written and verbal) communication skills.
· Strong IT skills and a drive to keep abreast of the opportunities afforded by new technology is essential.
