SALARY: £27,829 - £34,786 depending on experience

MAIN JOB PURPOSE:
The job holder will be a member of the Actives & Sensorials team in Refreshment Discover at Colworth House. The team is concerned with investigating the physics, chemistry, biology and psychology of ice cream and beverages and how these can be used in concert to improve the total consumer product experience, where flavours play an important role.

The role will contribute to Ice Cream Discover projects. The job holder will be an experienced flavour scientist and will contribute to flavour technologies to elevate consumer experience of ice cream as well as contributing to the understanding of how flavour release and perception varies as a function of different ice cream formulations.

JOB SUMMARY
· Conducting flavour analysis work independently in the laboratory.
· Driving the development of the Flavour Analysis capability for the Refreshment category (focus: Ice cream)
· Developing and applying strong knowledge in Flavour analysis in complex matrixes (preferably emulsions and frozen applications), by GC-MS (isolation, quantification, release) under static and dynamic conditions.
· Independent in developing new or adjustment of existing analytical methods in the area of flavour expertise to deliver necessary results and insights to the business.
· Applying flavour science towards product development. Demonstrated broad product knowhow and flavour sciences, in particular strong understanding of flavour molecule interactions with the matrix, to allow interpretation of analytical results and sensorial evaluation.
· Independent in setting objectives for own work. Planning own time in order to meet objectives and maximise efficiency.
· Ability to select and use proper data pre-treatment methods, i.e. like scaling (pareto & range), log transformation, and power transformation to support statistical data analysis by experts. Also, ability to interpret statistical treated data in PCA plots format.
· Display excellent team commitment, go the extra mile to ensure key results are delivered to challenging timelines to allow the team to progress.
· Provide advice, guidance and input to a number of team members, across labs & functions
· Outstanding technical skills should be complemented by very good communication skills. Able to bring complex insights to simple messages for stakeholders, colleagues in other functions and external audiences.
· Contribute to team meetings and discussions
· Safety, including curatorship of equipment, writing SOPs, COHS etc.

KEY REQUIREMENTS
· A BSc. in a science subject; ideally with flavour related subjects.
· Strong analytical skills, preferably in the area of volatile analysis by GC-MS (isolation, quantification, release) under static and dynamic conditions.
· A self-starter with strong proactivity and bias for action
· Respond positively to challenges.
· Flexibility, a willingness to step into new science areas as needed, and the ability to learn quickly on the job
· Strong team alignment to deliver to diverse customer project requirements and timelines.
· Good communication skills
· Some evidence of ability to gather and synthesize information.
· Strong practical creativity, learning ability and very strong clarity of purpose
