Background & Purpose of the Job

The Facilities Engineer role is critical to the development of our factories to World Class, which means zero defects, zero waste and zero losses. This role will focus on preventative maintenance throughout the factory with a combination of execution of preventative maintenance for the general facilities, compounding, utilities and buildings, improvements across all areas and preventative maintenance for the operating equipment.  The Facilities Engineer role will focus on elimination of breakdowns and maintenance of basic conditions through use of Focused Improvement methods including implementation of countermeasures that simplify processes, root cause analysis, standardize procedures, utilize predictive/preventative maintenance effectively and introduce increased automation and controls.

Working with vendors the Facilities Engineer will ensure Preventative Maintenance is performed on critical facility assets such as fire protection systems, hoists and railroads and support the environmental pillar to achieve compliance and progress.

Working directly with the line/area crews and cross-functional teams the Facilities Engineer will execute and lead improvements to eliminate breakdowns and ensure that the basic conditions in the different machines are maintained.  In addition, act in support of technical training for maintenance teams and provide coaching in phenomena identification, root cause analysis and the establishment of countermeasures. This role has responsibility for preventative maintenance functions to improve reliability, efficiency, and cost. The Facilities Engineer will work closely with the Maintenance Area Leads and supervisors and act as a backfill for those roles as needed.

Process and Organizational Design.   Leverage technical knowledge and a systems approach to ensure factory lines and processes are optimally resourced (e.g. manpower ratios are efficient and sustainable).

Analytical capability.  Collect and analyze complex data to penetrate problems’ phenomena and understand root causes.

Key Deliverables (But not limited to):

Eliminate Loss according to the UMS prioritization process using PM, FI, ENV and QC pillar tools and methodologies.

Cost Savings.

Co-Creation of decarbonization plan for the site

Active participation in the Environmental Pillar

Implement preventative, predictive maintenance and design / automation improvements to maintain basic conditions and increase MTBF.

Develop standards to sustain improvements.

Train maintenance crews on technical standards and sustainability of basic conditions

Lead the development of the CMMS system for the Facilities Department

Identify and extend good practice to other lines and areas.

Responsible for the 24/7 operation of all site utilities.

Active participation in safety programs (SBOs, Area Audits, etc.)

Implement SHE Specific Standards

Support Risk assessment in facilities area.

Active participation/leadership in various CSHEC sub-committees.

Key Performance Indicators (as driven by Cost Deployment Analysis):

Breakdowns (PM Loss)

MTBF

Equipment Ledgers.

Long term and short-term Plant Health Assessment strategies.

Maintenance Cost

Spare parts cost reduction

Qualifications:

Able to visualize clearly what the ideal production system is.

Able to clearly understand operating principles and establish correct operating standards.

Able to present findings and rationales clearly so that whole factory team can understand.

Able to make logical decisions based on data.

Possess a challenging and pioneering spirit.

Bachelor Degree: Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical Engineering.

Experience Required: 

ESSENTIAL:

Developmental role for technicians and First Line Managers (Facilities Engineer).  Must demonstrate a strong technical knowledge across all the site’s processes, utilities and lines.  Must possess strong engineering leadership credentials with a proven ability to eliminate loss and waste on significant projects.

PREFERRED / DESIRABLE:

Experience in automation and controls- Allen Bradley

Experience in statistics and process control tools.

Experience in AM, PM, Quality and FI tools and processes.

Six Sigma Certification (Preferred)

Confident in applying problem solving tools (5W1H, 4M, 5WHY etc.)

Pay: The pay range for this position is $67,000 - $100,400. Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.

Bonus: This position is bonus eligible.

Long-Term Incentive (LTI): This position is LTI eligible.
