To meet the sustainable business growth challenge of the next decade, Unilever R&D aims to transform its approach to scientific discovery and product development, through a Digital Transformation program. The Digital R&D team is leading this transformation of R&D through programs in Big Data Analytics, Predictive modeling and Product Life Cycle Management with a view to driving speed, efficiency and connectivity of R&D. The Modelling & Data Analytics team in Digital R&D, provides leading edge statistics, data science, data management, modelling and simulation expertise to deliver predictive models and advanced analytics for new insights to the category programs across all R&D functions. The focus of the Data Science team is in the design and planning of experiments, analyses of data, building and validating predictive models and interpretation and exploitation of outcomes together with the project team. The products and brands we support are across Unilever's categories in Foods & Refreshment, Home Care and Beauty & Personal Care.
We are looking for a Data Scientist/Bioinformatician who will support our Product Innovation and Science & Technology teams in R&D with insights gained from analyzing data from multiple sources. The ideal candidate is adept at using large data sets to find opportunities for product and process optimization, insight generation and knowledge discover. He/She must have strong background in statistical and/or numerical modelling, handling big data sets, machine learning, working in agile analytics development experience using a variety of data mining/data analysis methods, building and implementing models, using/creating algorithms and creating/running simulations. He/She must be comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams, including domain experts in R&D. The right candidate will have a passion for discovering solutions hidden in large data sets and working with stakeholders to improve business outcomes. Be a self-starter and a good problem solver that can navigate through different functional teams.
Job Responsibilities:
· Lead development of data science tools and applications in key areas of biological discovery, working on the Integrated Biology Big Data Program
· Program owner and coordinate with different functional teams to define and implement priorities for the program in partnership with IT innovation team
· Engagement and collaboration with globally deployed, multi-disciplinary teams to design and implement efficient, strategies to analyse, visualize and interpret data, build and validate predictive models and simulations in the space of biological data
· Work in inter- disciplinary teams that will include SEAC, clinicians, measurement scientists, bio-informaticians, toxicologists, BPC S&T teams, data engineers and other data scientists, both internal to Unilever and external partners.
· Provision of data science/statistics expertise across a range of R&D disciplines to define and execute analytics and modelling approaches
Requirements:
The candidate should have a Master's Degree or equivalent experience in Statistics, Mathematics or Data Science/Computer Science with experience in Biology/Life Sciences domain. Experience in FMCG/Retail/Pharmaceutical industries is a plus.
Technical Skills:
· Technical depth, operational breadth and demonstrated fluency in applying statistics/data analytics in scientific research.
· Hands-on technical expertise in Big Data management and visualization, Data Base search
· Strong technical background in multivariate statistical methods e.g. PCA, PLS and machine learning methods, network analysis, computational genomics
· Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks.
· Working knowledge in Design and Analysis of Experiments (DOE)
· Hands-on experience with professional statistical software such as SAS, R and Python, Perl
· Familiarity With Azure Platform, KIME, SQL, and excellent coding skills will be considered a plus.
· Domain knowledge in Pharma, Biology/Life Sciences would be an additional requirement
