Job Position: Database Architect

Main Purpose of the Job:
As part of the Unilever Tech 2.0 platform based strategy where we focus on our key business
priorities, work with fewer, strategic vendors, insource more technical expertise and upskill our people.
This role forms part of the Consumer Performance Platform, building a technology platform that will create a holistic view of our consumer, covering an increasing number of consumer data sources globally. Additionally, the platform will contain all our Digital Assets, Recipes and Product Information

Main Accountabilities:
The main accountability of this role is to define and build highly available and secure data platforms that support of the Consumer Performance programme.

· Database
· Provide expertise in database and cloud hosting technologies.
· Agreeing data related technology roadmaps in agreement with other technology leads.
· Design, management and architecture of Hadoop/Apache Project & SQL databases
· Ensuring Data integration using ETL and API toolsets is efficient and secure.
· Architecting large scale data products (ingestion, analytics)
· Establish and maintain appropriate backup/recovery policies and procedures.
· Provide Oversight of Database design and implementation.

· Security
· Protecting our most critical data is essential, the role will be accountable to align to the Unilever security data security best practises and standards.
· Oversight of all database security, implementing improvements as needed.
· Collaborating with entire Consumer Performance team to ensure all data is protected as appropriate to its classification.

· Team leadership
· Leading a team of Big Data Platform engineers
· Mentoring and coaching database engineering team.
· Support continuous improvement by investigating alternative approaches and technologies and presenting these for architectural review.
· Align to agile DevOps based software development life cycle with automation in mind.
· Ownership and responsibility for database standards and ensuring compliance.
· Oversight ensuring documentation and standards are complied with.

Required Experience:
· Experience of working with Big Data and all things SQL.
· Hosting data on Cloud Technologies (Amazon AWS)
· Management and integration to Database technology (Hadoop, MS SQL Server, Hibernate, ETL)
· Experience of working with teams using Agile / DevOps concepts.
· A commitment to delivering and securing the highest quality data.
· Dedication to a collaborative working style and the ability to work well in small teams, both onshore and offshore.
· Thrive on solving problems
· Database Access Control, Tuning and performance monitoring.
· Linux (Windows experience also considered)
· Automation (e.g. Chef , Cloud Formation, Puppet, Ambari Blueprints for Hortonworks)
· Continuous Integration (Jenkins)
· Monitoring Solutions (Zabbix, Cloudwatch)
· Issue, Change and Requirements Management (Jira)
· Source Code Management (BitBucket , GitHub)
