ABOUT THE ROLE
We are currently recruiting a Computational Fluid Dynamicist within the Strategic Science Group (SSG) in R&D.
The main aim of the SSG is to be the primary channel for new science and emerging technology in support of Unilever's long term innovation ambitions. In the SSG we are driving Virtual Process Engineering (VPE) as one of the key ways to accelerate towards our ambition of more efficient approaches to process and design engineering. We therefore have a need for an experienced and versatile practitioner of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to help deliver our ambitious plans. You should be comfortable in working with a diversity of team situations and enjoy a variety of challenges as well as being comfortable in dealing with a range of technical and science hurdles.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Computational Fluid Dynamicist you will be responsible for
Lead the CFD activities to produce major deliverables for the VPE agenda in SSG
Work with our Principal engineer to define approach and strategy in CFD for SSG and beyond
Work across the diverse portfolio of needs in our categories and customer groups to maintain one common approach to our CFD agenda
Work with and through external partners to deliver current and ensure future CFD capability
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Skills profile for the candidate
1. CFD PhD
o Evidence of application preferred but will consider theoretical content
o Will consider PhD where a major component is CFD
2. Experience of various techniques including
o Moving boundaries and rotating reference frames
o Complex transport phenomena
o Non-Newtonian fluid flow
o Turbulence modelling
3. Familiar with all steps of modelling building, analysis and post processing to extract engineering relevant parameters
4. Evidence of validation activities
5. Ideally proven experience with open / commercial CFD codes (eg Saturne, open foam, CFX, Fluent) and HPC environments.
6. Knowledge about robust optimisation techniques to generate improved equipment designs or process conditions
