Unilever Home Care Packaging Team is looking for an exceptional Design Engineer to join its in-house design department to develop packaging experiences for some of the world's most recognizable brands.

JOB SUMMARY

The main purpose of your role as a Design Engineer will be to transform packaging ideas into technically feasible concepts and manufacturable products.
You will pick up creative concepts and work them up into 3D designs, using state-of-the-art CAD software, simulation tools and rapid prototyping techniques to collaborate with a diverse range of colleagues, refining and optimizing each design for our consumers, our brands, our business and our planet.
You will lead the engineering of consumer-facing packaging formats considering aesthetics, functionality, safety and sensory design all through the lens of mass production techniques to deliver unique, value driven and sustainable packaging experiences.

You will be responsible for:
· Supporting a multi-functional team with design and engineering expertise in the refinement of ideas that meet consumer and business needs.
· Shaping packaging concepts into technically feasible packaging solutions, including component and assembly design, using 3D CAD software.
· Proving feasibility with risk analysis, virtual and physical design exploration and validation (including various prototyping methods).
· Defining the specification required to deliver perfect products every time, using tolerance stack-up analysis, FMEA and computer-aided simulation tools.
· Collaborating with 3 rd party suppliers to deliver reliable, manufacturable product solutions.
· Maintaining focus on reducing environmental footprint of all packaging in line with the Unilever Sustainable living plan and driving forward ideas to radically change this.

You will join our vibrant in-house team of designers and engineers who together cover the creative spectrum from concept to reality. We are looking for someone who can combine the natural curiosity of a designer with the creative problem solving of an engineer to constantly keep one-step ahead with competitive and game-changing designs.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

· Degree in product design, mechanical design or similar, with a good understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing techniques.
· Strong 3D CAD design skills with expertise in parametric solid modelling. (We use Unigraphics NX, but Solidworks, CREO etc would be welcome).
· Relevant experience leading component design and engineering. Experience in plastic packaging components is preferred but not essential.
· Good knowledge of the application and interpretation of CAE simulations including FEA, Moldflow and CFD. Ability to conduct bespoke simulations would be an advantage.
· A creative, logical and analytical mind to generate innovative design solutions to technical design problems.
· Ability to apply business leadership skills understanding and prioritise the impact of design decisions on cost, consumer and environment.
· You will need to thrive in a fast-paced environment, working on multiple projects and able to manage conflicting requirements with professionalism.
· You will need to be enthusiastic and self-motivated with good verbal and written communication skills. Able to communicate complex design and engineering principles to people at all levels of the business, across different functions.
