Assistant Procurement Manager – Packaging Materials

Job description



The Purpose of Role:

More than 50% of the direct packaging materials spend. In order to adapt to the dynamic business environment, Procurement needs to be agile to maintain its high-performance track record of delivery to the top and bottom line whilst focusing in the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan. In order to realize this, our suppliers are at the heart of everything we do. We need to work more closely than ever with suppliers to co-create sustainable practices and bigger and better innovations.

This role involves significant team and cross functional interaction as can be expected when implementing a strategy and smart buying initiatives. Effective internal and external stakeholder management and overall project management is core to this role. The role requires a large level of influencing, and therefore requires a candidate who is confident in engaging across all levels of seniority. This is not just a typical buying role only, but also works towards achieving excellence in packaging and smart buying across all product categories manufactured in third party manufacturers.

· Reporting to: Procurement Manager – Malaysia and Singapore

Key Responsibilities:
· Act as Packaging Material Buyer e.g. from requirement collection, request for quotation, quotes comparison, supplier selection/recommendation, advise price (include minimum order quantity and write off) for business case purpose, to price approval for third party manufacturers' purchases.
· Source packaging for all localization projects, innovations (local, regional and UI), artwork changes, savings projects, co-packing, promotional and sampling activities.
· Drive Sustainability agenda including Post Consumer Recyclable Journey and Collection Roadmap.
· Manage strategic relationship with all packaging suppliers while driving continuous improvement.
· Manage packaging operations for all MYSG projects including lead time for new product and/or new artwork, cylinders and printing blocks quotations, Purchase Info Record database, Spend compilation and reporting, purchase order as well as packaging readiness for trial runs, MPTs and commercial production.
· Support packaging operations for Unilever International (UI) and Unilever importing countries globally.
· Review and negotiate quarterly price movement and provide accurate price forecasting.
· Ensure suppliers reliability and compliance to buying specification, sourcing and quality requirements.
· Ensure optimum packaging capacity.
· Scan market for potential packaging suppliers, carry out supplier qualification and onboarding.
· Creation/Execution of Portfolio Strategy for Packaging.

· Internal: Procurement (Global, Cluster, Local), R&D (Regional, local), Supply Chain (Regional, local), Marketing (Regional, local), Finance, Customer Development, all key stakeholders.
· External: External suppliers.

Travel:
No travel is required.


Essential Experience/Skill/Knowledge:
· Academic - Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Logistic/Transportation or equivalent.
· Relevant work experience in Procurement or Supply Chain.
· Relevant experience in an MNC context.


Desirable Experience/Skill/Knowledge:
· Experience in Packaging related fields.
· Basic Sales and Marketing experience.
· Basic Finance knowledge.
· Comprehensive professional understanding of procurement principles, procedures and processes.
· Ability to proactively identify and solve issues using strong analytical and strong decision-making skills.
· Demonstrate project and information management skills.
