Job description

Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future? If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.

Background

The development of autonomous driving and advanced driver assistance systems (AD/ADAS) has been a major focus in the automotive industry in recent years. These systems have the potential to significantly improve road safety and reduce accidents caused by human error. However, the implementation of these systems requires significant processing power. As the number of potential applications (agents) for AD/ADAS systems continues to grow, it is important to explore new solutions to address the challenges that come with implementing these systems.

Problem: One major challenge is the significant amount of processing power required. Given the critical nature of many of these agents, it is crucial to enable real-time distributed processing within a multi-agent AD/ADAS system.

Solution: The traditional solution to address the significant amount of processing power required for AD/ADAS systems has been to increase the number of processors in the vehicle. However, this approach is constrained by vehicle limitations, particularly in terms of electrical power capacity and physical space. Alternatively, cloud computing can be used to transfer some of the processing to the cloud, providing a scalable and flexible solution to overcome these limitations. Given the critical nature of many of these agents, it is crucial to enable real-time distributed processing within a multi-agent AD/ADAS system, and cloud computing can help achieve this goal.

One of the main challenges is ensuring a robust and seamless connection between the vehicle and the cloud. This is a key enabler to enhance the reliability and safety of the system, particularly for mission-critical agents. There are a number of non-terrestrial network-based solutions, such as 6G-low Earth orbit and high-altitude platform station-based-connectivity. They offer low-latency, high-throughput, and robust connection.
