Master thesis: CAE method(s) for assessing the deformation/damage accumulated after repeated impact

  • Göteborg, SWEDEN

Job description

Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future? If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.

Background

Repeated impact loads causing small plastic deformation after every cycle on particular component designs may be evaluated by either devising a physical test or by utilising the CAE methods. Currently, the physical test method has been preferred due to the time constraints during the development. Nevertheless, this incurs additional costs and the ultimate goal of achieving the ideal design during the earlier stages of the development cannot be reached.

Description of the Thesis Work

The aim of this master’s thesis is therefore to investigate the suitable expedited CAE methods, preferably in ABAQUS, for evaluating the deformation/damage accumulated after one million (or more) repeated impact loads defined by impact speeds and defined initial component geometries with material properties. At the end of the work, the calculated/estimated CAE computation time will be compared to the time duration of the physical testing process from the prototyping until the end of the mechanical component test.
