About this role
The Packaging Engineering Intern position will primarily be responsible for working with supplier packaging development. This entails working with Purchasing, Procurement, Parts Marketing and the Warehouse and acting as liaison for Global Packaging initiatives.
The Packaging Engineering Intern position provides you with the opportunity to apply your academic knowledge and skills in a professional environment, and to promote your career goals through contact with professionals in your field of study. The intern experience enables you to participate in professional activities for Volvo Group Service Market Logistics by working on projects for Service Market Global Packaging. Intern positions are structured learning experiences where interns and our full-time professionals work together on projects within their selected organization. The intern position allows students to integrate knowledge and skills in a manner that is mutually beneficial to the student and Volvo Group Service Market Logistics.
The internship position begins Summer 2025, and the specific workdays and hours will be flexible, but agreed upon with the hiring manager.
What you will do
· Develop and Drive initial packaging set-up from material suppliers and ensure that the solution is the most cost-effective and secure throughout the entire supply chain.
· Set-up, change and update packaging specifications in Warehouse Management Systems.
· Secure that the part is well-protected throughout the logistics chain.
· Actively work to decrease the total cost in the logistics chain.
· Initiate, analyze and negotiate with suppliers for implementing supplier packaging.
· Handling of packaging issues concerning supplier-packed parts at our warehouses, 3PL’s, suppliers and dealers.
Professional Objectives:
· Weekly Writing Assignments: Brief written summaries of the learning experiences and project updates will be required.
· Project Presentations: Formal project presentations will be required to be presented to peers, management, and senior leaders within the organization.
· Performance Feedback: Throughout the entire experience, the manager will provide verbal and written feedback on work performance. At the end of the internship, each intern will be given a formal written evaluation based on their work performance.
Who are you?
Essential Skills and Minimum Education Requirements:
· Applicants must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in Packaging Engineering Studies, or a related field, at an accredited school.
· Applicants should be interested in pursuing a professional career in Packaging Engineering with a specific interest in automotive and aftermarket packaging.
· Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to read engineering drawings.
· Applicants must have completed 30 semester hours prior to the start of the internship and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75.
· Applicants should be proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint).

Expected Commitment:
This internship allows the intern to work up to 40 hours per week during the Summer 2025 semester, with the specific working schedule to be agreed upon with the hiring manager.
