Job description

Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future? If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.

Automated Height Adjustment for Truck-Trailer Coupling Utilizing a Monocular Camera System

Before coupling a semi-trailer to a truck, the driver is required to manually adjust the truck’s air suspension system to achieve the correct vehicle height. This adjustment is crucial to ensure that the truck’s fifth wheel properly aligns with the trailer’s kingpin. The objective of this project is to facilitate this coupling process for the driver and to enable autonomous coupling by automatically controlling the truck’s height to match that of the trailer.

By automating the height adjustment, the system aims to reduce the manual effort required from the driver, minimize the risk of misalignment, and enhance overall efficiency and safety during the coupling process. This technology not only supports drivers in their tasks but also paves the way for advancements in autonomous vehicle operations, where the truck can independently perform the coupling procedure without human intervention.

The goal of this project is to utilize a camera mounted on the rear of a truck to detect the front side of a semi-trailer. The system is designed to estimate the trailer’s height relative to the truck and automatically adjust the truck’s height to ensure proper alignment for coupling. This solution aims to address the alignment challenge by leveraging deep learning techniques, specifically semantic segmentation or object detection along with depth estimation.
