Job description

For more than 60 years PROBAN® flame retardant (FR) garments have protected wearers against ever-present thermal risks in a range of work environments. Sold through our global licensees, PROBAN® is Solvay's brand name for cotton-based FR fabrics and garments that have been tested by our independently accredited quality control ISO 17025 lab and approved for FR performance.

A vacancy exists for an Application Chemist to join the PROBAN® Technical Service Team based at Oldbury.

Primary purpose:
To provide technical and customer support to the Solvay PROBAN® business and assist in the development of new products; PROBAN® is a proprietary flame retardant system for Cotton based fabric used in personal protective clothing.

Reports to:
PROBAN® Technical Service Manager

Location:
Oldbury, West Midlands

Key Tasks:
· Work with the technical team in developing Solvay flame retardants for textiles
· Carrying out laboratory support work to assist Solvay PROBAN® customers
· Take a supporting role during commissioning new Solvay PROBAN® customers
· Assist in providing onsite technical support for Solvay PROBAN® customers.
· May require travel outside UK to support PROBAN® customers during commissioning; customer site technical support and to attend trade shows

Desired profile

Qualifications :

The successful candidate will have a degree in Textile Science or Technology, Chemistry or a chemistry related subject. Some experience of the textile industry will be desirable although training will be provided. The chosen candidate will be enthusiastic and possess good interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.
