Job description

Buyer will have direct responsibility in the purchasing domain of raw materials for Solvay's SpecChem (GBU) Global Business Unit.

Ideal candidate will report directly to the GBU Head Global Purchasing Leader. This position is based out of our Houston facility with frequent travel to the field operations centers within domestic USA and Mexico . Sites include: Juarez, MX; Deer Park, TX; Freeport, TX; Cincinnati, OH and Alorton, IL.

Job Description:

· Direct responsibility for raw material sourcing and purchasing in Nafta mainly for Nafta sites, but also for other GBU sites globally.
· Analyse and improve sourcing and supplier management, generate saving within our Purchasing Excellence program.
· Be able to support as buyer, specific requirements from our customers in electronic , automotive, pharma- and Agromarkets and be able to reply to customer audits together with quality management.
· Collaborate with global GBU Purchasing and Supply Chain Excellence sector in all GBU purchasing activities and manage (PSCE) distribution concept.
· Coordinate purchasing with other corporate buyers, purchase contracts and purchase agreements, distribution, procurement services or activities to limit costs and improve accuracy.
· Implement the GBU Process for quality management in purchasing and ensure data integrity in purchasing tools and reporting
· Examine existing procedures or opportunities for streamlining activities to meet raw material and product distribution needs and demands.
· Review or update rules and regulations in accordance with new or changing environmental policies, standards, regulations, or laws when it relates to raw materials.
· Understand and comply with all Solvay safety rules, company policies and quality policy.
· Monitor forecasts and quotas to identify changes or to determine their effect on purchasing activities, involve supply chain when necessary. Cooperate with production planning.
· Make recommendations and provide performance feedback (KPI), production forecasts or changes to GBU Business Partners and/or PSCE leaders when applicable.
· Collaborate and be point of contact for global team for any sourcing needs in the Nafta region.
· Participate in cost efficiency projects (I.e., Cash generating– supplier financing project)

Desired profile

·  Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
·  Minimum of 3-5 years of related experience with good understanding of purchasing laws, contracts, procedures and techniques.
·  Knowledge of contractual requirements, industry standards and practices and the possession of a strong understanding of engineered equipment are required.
·  Strong negotiation skills are required.
·  Requires strong Interpersonal, communication and presentation skills to professionally develop effective internal & external relationships.
·  Should be familiar with supplier integrative and partnering techniques.
·  Excellent communication skills; Must possess an ability to read and interpret prints and specifications in order to determine accurately the purchasing requirements.
·  Strong analytical skills are also essential for evaluating bids/proposals.
·  Strong systems knowledge, SAP preferred.
·  Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
·  Proficiency in Spanish a plus.
·  Must be willing to travel 30-40% to Nafta Regions with some limited International travel when required.
