Job description

Based at Solvay's Technology Solutions Oldbury Manufacturing site this position will deliver specialist analytical support to Oldbury Site and to the Phosphorus Specialties business within Technology Solutions.

Support will be provided to both routine production and product development, with regards to the quality of products made, and support in dealing with production requirements and customers.

The position will also aid the business and R&I team in dealing with the development and monitoring of new products and processes in the phosphorus specialties markets (including performance chemicals and pharmaceuticals); and Product Stewardship support for registration of Solvay products under REACH and Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR). Oldbury site hosts commercial scale pilot facilities for product development.

Key accountabilities

· The provision of a comprehensive analytical service for Pilot Plant products.
· The provision of specialized testing of Oldbury products to comply with legislatory, customer queries and health and safety requirements.
· The provision of testing as part of Solvay's registration of products under REACH and BPR. Liaising with Product Stewardship, and external contract laboratories to ensure test methods and techniques meet the requirements.
· Follow established procedures and document all findings and results in a timely, concise, clear and accurate manner.
· Supporting other Solvay sites and products.
· Maintaining department instrumentation and specifying new equipment.
· Ensuring that health and safety issues are adhered to.

Desired profile

Qualifications :

·  As a minimum, you will be qualified to degree level, with 3 to 5 years experience.
·  Appropriate post graduate qualification may be advantageous.
·  You'll have a thorough knowledge of analytical test methodologies eg GC, HPLC (incl IC and GPC), NMR, UV Visible Spectroscopy, IR Spectroscopy and ICP and wet chemistry.
·  Good numerical and problem solving skills, able to develop analytical methods taht satisfy internal, customer and legislatory requirements.

·  Good time management and flexibility are vital in reacting to immediate production issues while also satisfying longer term project work.
·  Excellent communication skills are required.
·  You will be expected to deliver expert analytical advice and direction when working with teams from different functions.
·  Previous experience in a manufacturing organisation would be advantageous.
