Overview

The Process Engineering team within the R&D Global Beverage organization works globally to deploy, scale up and commercialize ALL global and regional initiatives across innovation, brand stewardship and productivity.  This team also provides all of the specifications and documentation for the process and filling of all beverages in the system and the manufacturing procedures for the same. 

 

This is a leadership position that manages and directs Process Engineering Teams based in the New York Valhalla R&D Center as well as working closely with Global teams.  The position provides leadership and direction for the successful development and commercialization multiple beverage platforms, globally, including Gatorade and Muscle Milk.  As the leader of these groups, the incumbent is accountable for the successful scale-up, validation and commercialization of new beverages and technology while ensuring new products and technology innovations are safe, stable, and fit for intended use.  Products are to be are launched on time and meet process design specifications.  This is accomplished through effective and efficient collaboration and coordination of a wide array of stakeholders including Product and Package Development, Quality, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing through the innovation/commercialization process.

 

This role will lead the Global Process Engineering teams based in the US to deliver initiatives meeting timeline, cost & quality expectations. This role supports innovation, brand stewardship and productivity initiatiaves at all manufacturing plants globally for all business models - PepsiCo owned (CO), Franchise owned, or third party manufacturing (3PM).  This leader will create, deploy and train personnel on all required manufacturing procedures and practices. This role is responsible to ensure all initiatives are staffed with correct resourcing to meet timelines, cost and quality expecatations.  This role will lead new manufacturing equipment startups and will partner with Supply Chain and Operations to lead validation of new manufacturing lines and new equipment in manufacturing locations globally.  In addition, this role will be responsible for Global deployment of Engineering practices that meet/exceed personal safety, Quality and Food Safety requirements.    

 

This person will be responsible to partner closely with senior leaders in R&D Product Development, R&D Package Development, R&D Quality and Food Safety, Global Beverage Supply Chain & operations, Global Beverage Quality, Regional R & D Leadership, and other business and technical leaders in the regions and sectors.

Responsibilities

·  Support Gatorade and Muscle Milk through successful development and commercialization of new beverages and beverage platforms. Role is responsible for Innovation, Renovation, Productivity, and Brand Stewardship initiatives.
·  Ensure Process Engineering teams are meeting all mandatory requirements of the New Product Development Technical Stage Gate process (TSG) from Feasibility through Execution.  Highlight risks, impact and mitigation plans to deliver project on time, within budget and in compliance with all design specifications.
·  Lead identification, design, development, testing and qualification of process systems in support of new product launches regionally and globally.
·  Provide direction as well as lead scale-up trials at manufacturing plants.
·  Collaborate with Project Teams, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and Supply Chain to ensure seamless implementation of process requirements and specifications.  Ensure all components and process systems can produce and sustaining safe, stable, and fit for consumption products.
·  Provide team leadership to support technical assessments of manufacturing facilities to determine capability and gaps. Work closely with Supply Chain Engineering to identify and implement equipment, controls and SOP’s to address gaps.
·  Use appropriate statistical methods to define process capability on existing or new equipment for existing and new products in order to identify manufacturing and/or process gaps.
·  Successfully generate and champion new ideas and initiatives that allow the Process Engineering Team and NPD initiatives to be Faster, Stronger and Better according to the PepsiCo Way principles. 
·  Maintain metrics showing status of projects, resource allocation, and results.
·  Identify and lead collaboration efforts to improve efficiency, reduce risk and minimize costs in our processes and systems.
·  Proactively identify skill/capability and system gaps when encountered.  Propose corrective actions including coaching, training courses and new/modified processes.
·  Develop, manage, and communicate project budgets and resource needs.
·  Collaborate in knowledge sharing across the organization through CoP´s or other best practice forums.
·  Drive data based business and project decisions founded on technical insight.
·  Innovation – Set appropriate guardrails for products, packaging, process and equipment. Accountable for the successful commercialization of new products- meeting timeline & budget
·  Manage and mentor the Process Development team, including the assignment of their responsibilities, the development of their skills, and the evaluation of their performance
·  Effectively use commercial processes to launch new initiatives
·  Provide timely recommendations for effectively meeting product launch demands
·  Exhibits specialized mastery and greater depth, breadth, or application of multiple process engineering areas including mixing technologies, emulsions, hot fill, aseptic, retort & others
·  Technical expertise in high acid and low acid blending and manufacturing requirements, food safety requirements and good manufacturing practices

Compensation and Benefits:

·  The expected compensation range for this position is between $106,300 - $ 177,850 based on a full-time schedule
·  Location, confirmed job-related skills and experience will be considered in setting actual starting salary
·  Bonus based on performance and eligibility; target payout is 15% of annual salary paid out annually.
·  Paid time off subject to eligibility, including paid parental leave, vacation, sick, and bereavement

·  Travel required (US and International)—estimate 20-30%.
Qualifications

·  Minimum Bachelors in Chemical, Mechanical or Food Engineering with at least 10+ years in Process R&D, New Product Development, and Commercialization.
·  2-3+ years of managerial experience required
·  Demonstrated leadership in Process Engineering working with Quality, Food Safety, Supply Chain and Manufacturing facilities building strong relationships.
·  Demonstrated highly effective negotiation, influencing, motivational, coordination, and communication skills across a diverse global fast paced organization.
·  Strong people management skills and passion for talent development.
·  Demonstrated ability to lead a multi faceted team, provide clear priorities and expectations, and effectively manage resource needs with business demands.
·  Demonstrated ability to work effectively and manage risk in an environment with ambiguity.
·  Demonstrated knowledge and experience in beverage processes including hot fill, high/low acid aseptic, carbonation, and retorting and packaging systems including PET/plastic bottles, aluminum/steel cans, glass, and aseptic package forms.
·  Demonstrated ability to identify critical data and distill into business-focused technical recommendations
·  Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, knowledge of troubleshooting tools and techniques.
·  Knowledge of design engineering, particularly in food science, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, sanitary piping practices and process and instrumentation diagrams.
·  Personal resilience and adaptability to work in a matrix organization spanning geographies and functions.
·  Good interpersonal skills and ability to influence both peers and senior leaders.
·  Solid leadership skills with emphasis on negotiation, the anticipation of obstacles, conflict resolution and solutions.
