Overview

New Legal Specialist role supporting the Quaker Marketing Law team and other legal team members based out of the PepsiCo Chicago office.

Responsibilities

The candidate hired as a Legal Associate for QFUS should have sufficient experience using Microsoft, Zoom, and other common CPG technological platforms and applications and the appropriate educational background. A good fit for the role would have strong organizational skills and the ability to learn legal concepts quickly so that he/she can become an asset to the team with respect to assisting with work product as they become more familiar with the business. An overview of the key tasks this position handles are as follows:

·  Review of marketing materials, including print, digital and social, for compliance with corporate policy, voluntary self-regulation guidelines and advertising law principals including claim substantiation and FDA/FTC requirements with issuing spotting for intellectual property and trademark clearance issues. Issue spot for materials that need additional review by Legal Sr. Manager and Legal Sr. Director. Provide counsel under supervision of Legal Senior Director.
·  Review and revise services agreements, influencer agreements, sponsorship agreements, joint promotion agreements, NDAs and other licensing, marketing and promotion related agreements. Manage the contract files and database.
·  Review contests, sweepstakes and other consumer promotions under supervision of Senior Director of Legal and in coordination with outside counsel.
·  Actively engage in continuous improvement processes and assist with the development, preparation, and roll-out of internal legal training sessions for marketing and other internal clients.
·  Conduct legal research projects when needed.
·  Serve as a liaison between the Litigation Team and the QFNA business for managing discovery and requests for information from outside counsel on litigation matters.
·  Manage weekly legal review meetings with cross-functional business partners (i.e., Marketing, PR, Digital and Internal Office Hours). Meetings consist of reviewing marketing creative, contracts and legal questions. Responsible for preliminary review of requests for legal review and issue spotting materials to determine agendas according to complexity and the Quaker Marketing Law division of duties.
·  Manage and triage requests for legal review submitted through the Quaker Legal spa-box to support efficiency; manage issuance of responses on behalf of legal and follow up with clients; archive communications to and from legal, organize and maintain agreements/files/approvals; etc.
·  Advise Quaker Marketing Law’s clients on processes and procedures and inform and direct the business regarding these requirements and how to engage the various cross-functional support teams that are involved.
·  Archive legal responses to the spa box in OneLaw and serve as systems SME.
·  Liaise with PEP employees regarding requests for legal review, from junior marketer’s/ supply chain associates/shopper sales associates that have been recently hired, to senior legal internal stakeholders, senior business internal stakeholders, outside counsel, third party counsel and business contacts, all of which require careful attention to detail and dynamic interpersonal skills. Role can expect frequent interaction with the BU on how to engage with PEP cross-functional counterparts (including executive Sr. Director and VP-level PepsiCo employees).
·  Capture redline edits and legal feedback provided as comments in Word, pdf and Excel documents. Assist with a variety of legal documents such as Non-Disclosure Agreements, Master Services Agreements, Influencer Agreements, Promotional Terms and Conditions, Marketing Ads and Videos, Professional Services Agreements, Amendments, Statements of Work, Regulatory Forms, and privileged and confidential emails.
·  Manage other onsite and offsite storage and legal retention matters.

Compensation & Benefits:

• The expected Compensation range for this position is between $56,900 - $95,300.
• Location confirmed job-related skills and experience will be considered in setting actual starting salary.

Qualifications

·  B.A./B.S. degree required.
·  5+ years work as a legal assistant or paralegal in marketing, promotions, social media, FTC/FDA law.
·  Experience in trademarks law a plus.
·  Experience at a large law firm or corporate legal department.
·  Experience working with consumer goods companies a plus.
·  Strong analytical and organization skills with superior attention to detail.
·  Strong communication skills.
·  Background in all or some of the following areas: Trademark, Copyright, Promotions, Privacy, Entertainment (SAG/AFTRA) and Advertising Law and contracts.
·  Ability to multitask and assess priorities in a fast paced environment.
·  Ability to collaborate with and influence cross functional teams and partners.
·  Willingness to tackle new subjects outside of areas of expertise and take on special projects as the need arises.
·  Respect to the confidentiality requirements pertaining to legal matters.
·  Ability to handle tight time deadlines, be responsive, prioritize, follow-up, and be productive under pressure. Effectively act as lead on assigned projects, ask initial questions of the business on behalf of the Quaker Marketing Law team upon clients engaging legal via the spa box or meeting requests.
·  The candidate should possess advanced organizational skills, good attention to detail and a natural sense of order with regard to time and resource savings.
·  Strong ability to work with minimum supervision and to anticipate needs. Expected to operate within PEP global policies and processes and spot issues and develop solutions independently.
·  Contribute to Quaker Marketing team’s development and make suggestions on Quaker Marketing Law’s process improvements as necessary.
·  Ability to communicate effectively with business clients and other members of the law department. Expected to serve as a resource to the QFNA & FLNA Legal Department and Business.
·  Strong interpersonal skills.
