Overview

The Sidney, IL Frito-Lay corn facility supplies high quality food corn to Frito-Lay’s manufacturing plants to produce iconic brands such as Fritos, Doritos, and Tostitos.  The company contracts with area growers to produce high-quality dent corn delivered to the facility year-round.  The grain is then dried, conditioned, cleaned, and shipped in bulk to production plants.  This role serves as the primary local point of contact to support the procurement and coordination of corn supply coming into the Sidney facility, managing approximately $100 million of locally sourced corn spend.

 

Core responsibilities consist of grower relations, negotiations, sustainability program implementation, coordinating supply, food safety assurance, quality monitoring, material forecasting, and strategic planning to optimize overall corn cost for Frito Lay.  A significant portion of the role’s responsibilities require time spent on-farm with growers.

 

This role is within PepsiCo Foods North America’s Agro/Commodity Sourcing and Procurement group which offers opportunities for career paths in direct contracting with corn, oats, and potato growers as well as purchasing of other ag ingredients such as vegetable oil, cornmeal, wheat, flour, and rice.  Other roles within the group are located in Plano TX, Sidney IL, Gothenburg NE, Rhinelander WI, Central/NE Saskatchewan, Southern Manitoba, and/or Mississauga/Peterborough Ontario.

Responsibilities

As a front-line manager of corn for Frito Lay, this role is expected to operate with a high level of critical thinking.  Due to the complexity of corn supply and demand, competing markets, quality needs of food corn, and necessity for improved sustainability for Frito Lay’s corn sourcing, field buyers will need to balance and advance competing agendas. To effectively move forward and future-proof Frito Lay’s corn procurement strategy, the right candidate must be able to exert a high-level of influence across grower base and internally within the organization to reach the best solution for the end-to-end supply chain.

 

·  Strategic Relationship Management – effectively balance short-term and long-term deliverables and make trade-off decisions frequently with grower base and cross-functionally within Frito Lay.
·  Identifying and approving new growers – to continue building the supply base, bring in new perspectives, and optimize supply assurance and cost, field buyer will be responsible for finding, approving, and onboarding best of the best corn growers.
·  Implementation of sustainability advancements – field buyer will be responsible for partnering with PepsiCo’s Sustainable Ag group to implement advancements within grower base and supply shed to deliver against PepsiCo sustainability commitments.
·  AOP Planning and Pricing Analysis – front-line cost build analysis of pricing structure across the region where the buyer operates. Leverage basic knowledge of commodity markets and competing demand to align on right cost build and support development of strategies to manage basis negotiations across grower base.
·  Supply Risk Mitigation – Identifies potential gaps in supply chain for raw materials and develop/execute plans to remove those gaps.

 

Compensation and Benefits:

·  The expected compensation range for this position is between $61,600 - $103,250 based on a full-time schedule.
·  Location, confirmed job-related skills and experience will be considered in setting actual starting salary.
·  Bonus based on performance and eligibility; target payout is 5% of annual salary paid out annually.
·  Paid time off subject to eligibility, including paid parental leave, vacation, sick, and bereavement.

Qualifications

Required Skills

·  Undergraduate degree in Agriculture, Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field preferred
·  Strong interpersonal skills

·  Technical experience related to agriculture production
·  Commodity market knowledge/experience
·  Basic knowledge or experience within PepsiCo Procurement Directs space
·  Effective written and verbal communication skills
·  Strong knowledge/experience in using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

·  Proven collaboration/teamwork experience
·  Ability to influence at all levels of internal organization and external growers
