About the role  

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Waitrose Commercial team as a Proposition Owner for Food Service. With plans to invest over £1bn in our store estate over the next 5 years, this role is an opportunity to make a significant impact on the future of the business. 

As the Proposition Owner for Food Service you will be responsible for creating a differentiated, high quality experience and customer journey for a subset of categories within Food Service (which includes in store bakery, chilled and hot counters and made in branch products), and as a result add sustainable value to our business. 

You will translate the Waitrose Commercial Strategy into a vision for the relevant Food Service categories, and create a 12-18 month action plan. From this, you will lead a team of cross functional experts to deliver this plan and achieve market-beating performance. You will be the central ‘hub’ of activity, setting a clear direction, fostering communication, and skillfully balancing competing priorities.

Alongside leading the roadmap of change activity you will also monitor performance and feedback of the Proposition, identifying root causes of successes and challenges. You will stay abreast of industry best practices and emerging technologies to keep us ahead of the market. With the support of cross functional specialists you will lead the response in order to ensure the Propositions continual success.

Some of your key responsibilities include but not limited too:  

· 
Creating the vision for categories within Food Service, and the 12-18 month proposition roadmap, with clear targets and measures of success.

· 
Act as the central “hub” in a hub and spoke model to deliver the roadmap and respond to market and operational activity.. This will involve setting clear direction for the proposition, facilitating communication and making trade offs in competing priorities from stakeholders across the business to ensure the optimisation of investment and resource.

· 
Leading proposition design and development at all stages, i.e. test, trial, full launch, maintain and continuously improve.

· 
Measurement and reporting of change activity, from small scale changes to transformational new launches.

· 
Responding to ad hoc queries and requests for support from around the business to ensure issues are resolved promptly with an end to end benefit mindset.

· 
Analysing customer data, market trends, and competitor activities to inform proposition development.

· 
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the industry and market context for the proposition, and apply this to decision making.

 

Essential Skills  

 ● Clear understanding of ideation, test and learn, pilot and roll out process, including full estate roll out of new customer product propositions

● Evidence of launching recent high performing Grocery and Food Service customer product propositions

● Proven strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to inspire and influence others, including senior stakeholders, in areas where you are not the expert or decision maker

● Understanding of commercial and operational levers

● Prior experience of leading cross functional projects and matrix managing cross functional stakeholders

● Drive to find compromise and solutions that work for all parties

● Data based decision making

● Continuous improvement mindset

● Experience in using personal judgement to navigate ambiguous situations and land change without standardised processes in place

● Experience in food retail, food service and hospitality

Desirable 

● Experience in Process and/or Critical Path development

● Experience in buying, product supply and ranging
