Role Summary/Purpose
· We are offering a Controls Trainee position within the Onshore Wind, Land Constrained Controls & Operability team.
· She/he will provide support to the design and implementation of the wind Turbine control system, performing definite tasks under the supervision of experienced controls engineers.
· Within the 6 months internship, the trainee will have the opportunity to learn about wind turbine technology and control systems, as well as on related design processes and tools.
Essential Responsibilities
· Develop controls strategies, methods and tools for optimal operability, reliability, availability and protection of the Wind turbine.
· Utilize first principles methodologies to understand and design physics-based control solutions for Wind Turbines.
· Perform control software validation (Software-in-the Loop, Aero-elastic simulations).
Qualifications/Requirements
· BS/MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent knowledge or work experience
· Knowledge of classical and advanced Control theory (PID, Model Based Controls, EKF, etc..)
· Knowledge of basic physics (mechanics, aerodynamics, electrics and electronics, etc) and experience in first-principle modelling.
· Knowledge in Matlab – Simulink.
· Team player with good communication skills.
· Fluent in English (spoken and written).

They must be in possession of them at the time of start hiring. GE will not sponsor this requirement.
Desired Characteristics
· Knowledge of wind turbines systems and functioning.
· Knowledge of Controls System for Wind Turbines or similar machines/energy systems.
· Experience in designing control systems (e.g. internships, final thesis projects).
· Knowledge of real-time control system and industrial PLCs.
· Understanding of electric utility transmission and distribution systems.
