About the role
The primary purpose of this role is to manage and steer the investment portfolio and support the Chief Investment Officer with the delivery of investment management services across AAIL.
- Manage AAIL’s $10b investment portfolio, including monitoring and steering of asset allocation, performance, ALM and liquidity for the core fixed income mandates.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of AAIL’s investment strategy, considering AAIL’s risk appetite, investment objectives and constraints (IFRS, local and Solvency II capital requirements, ALM).
- Identify and develop new investment strategy proposals and ideas.
- Lead and coordinate asset manager research and oversight for intra-group and external asset managers, including performance monitoring, analysis, strategy, and risk (Listed and unlisted assets).
- Monitor macroeconomic and market developments and identify the prospective impact on AAIL’s investment strategy and performance.
- Contribute to development of tactical views on key asset classes and implementation of tactical investment strategy within the Strategic Asset Allocation approved by the AAIL Board.
- Successfully lead key investment-related projects (e.g. onboarding of new asset managers and funds).
- Contribute to development and implementation of AAIL’s ESG strategy, including progress against decarbonisation targets, and identification of new sustainable investment strategies.
- Collaborate with key Allianz local and Group stakeholders to prepare and validate annual investment planning and monitor performance against investment and accounting targets.
- Lead and co-ordinate preparation and reporting for Executive and Board investment committees and lead adoption and improvement of local and Group investment data tools and models.
- Support the Chief Investment Officer with other duties, projects and requests as required.
About you
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a Commerce/Finance discipline, and other relevant accreditations (i.e. Charted Financial Analyst qualification).
- Demonstrated experience as an Investment Manager with experience across a range of asset classes within general insurance or wealth management is highly desired.
- Strong understanding of investment frameworks and their interaction with all other parts of the insurance value chain.
- Demonstrated ability to use quantitative finance techniques and fixed income fundamentals (e.g. duration, spread, performance attribution) to monitor, analyse and steer fixed income portfolios.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Australian investment universe, including money market funds, government and corporate bonds, asset-backed securities, private credit and other asset classes.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake Strategic Asset Allocation analysis and build optimal risk adjusted portfolios.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS accounting and Australian insurance capital framework.
- Ability to interpret and analyse complex information, extract meaningful insights and evaluate options for decision making.
- Pays high attention to detail by completing tasks with thoroughness and accuracy and has the ability to quickly identify errors or inconsistencies within the information.
- Ability to plan and prioritise effectively, organise tasks and manage competing resources and demands.
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and PowerPoint) and financial databases (e.g. Bloomberg)
- Ability to partner and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to establish strong professional relationships and influence outcomes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of communicating with audiences at all levels with clarity, impact, and influence.
