The Opportunity
This position works out of our offices in Nairobi Kenya, in the Abbott Molecular division .
As the Country Manager , To develop, maintain and grow the business, and market share of the Division (Abbott Molecular)
What You’ll Do
• Work closely with the Managing Director Africa to plan, develop, and execute a strategy for
profitably growing the Molecular business in thecountry including both the private and
government sector business.
• Develop a competitive Trade Key Accounts business building opportunity within the Life
Science Laboratory and molecular instrumentation distributor groups.
• Achievement of sales targets & SFE KPIs as per PLN
• Propose and negotiate resource allocation (human and financial) to ensure
manpower requirements are identified for maximum productivity.
• Control / review / monitor expenditure against allocated budgets.
Forecast, plan implement and monitor all sales activities. Compiles & submits reports as
• Create new business ideas and sales techniques for the sales teams to help drive
the business forward
• Ensure that all marketing strategies are communicated, understood, effectively
implemented and monitored, providing feedback regarding effectiveness of these
• Develop Territory sales plans for all strategic brands
• Conduct environmental scanning, organizational effectiveness, and competitor and market
• Ensure effective communication thereof with marketing team & management.
Ensure synergies across the business units as well as with other departments within the
organization are identified and encouraged
• Elaborate and implement motivation elements (bonuses, incentives, training plans, skills
development and talent identification and retention) necessary to maintaining synergies
and business growth
• Prepare and present annual business plans to) with periodic updates as requested or as
necessary. The plan must identify specific actions that will achieve sales and profitgoals.
• Developing relationships with key government members and bureaucracy, building
understanding of the Molecular Division and their role in the Life Science and Research
• Develop strong distributor management relationships based around common values and
team work.
• Participate in process improvements throughout the business that will ensure the
organization meets its goals and objectives.
• Demonstrates indirect influence and can persuade, persevere, motivate, and operate ina
matrix environment.
• Implement a strong relationship with Funders/KOLs and create long term engagement
plans with marketing
• Visit top Funders ,KOLs and C suite at agreed frequency
• Create a monitoring mechanism for KOL engagement
• Knows business drivers and what to change to produce results and grow business.
• Understands history and factors impacting current state and continually collects and
analyzes key market data.
• Externally focused on customers, and patients. Knows what they want, how to add value
to them and create a difference from our competitors.
• Understands pricing, reimbursement challenges in the healthcare system and its politics
Required Qualifications
Tertiary qualification in Medical Technology or Biochemistry or Related
Preferred experience:
•Minimum 3-5 years Sales Management /National Sales Management preferably
experience having worked with distributors within Kenya and surrounding areas with track
record of proven success, that involved working closely with customers to deliverresults.
• Candidate is based in Kenya.
• Molecular or Life Sciences business leader with extensive commercial experience across
the key aspects of the industry from a base in marketingand sales
• Experience in healthcare ideally within the Molecular laboratory industry.
• Superior negotiation skills with proven record of successful deals.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a sales team through strongleadership
competencies, interpersonal relations and customer focus.
• Established KOL relationships and market knowledge a strong advantage.
• Strategy, planning and execution skills
• Verbal and written communication skills.

• Motivation and leadership skills.
