Vehicle Engineering (VE) is an integral part of Volvo Group Trucks Technology (GTT), under Volvo Group North America. We specialize in cutting-edge research, engineering, product planning, and project execution, from initial development to final delivery and aftermarket support. What you will be doing

As a Co-op in this area, you will enhance our vehicle dynamics simulation efforts, focusing on automation and connectivity within our simulation frameworks. You'll collaborate closely not only with our in-house simulation engineer but also with counterparts across various vehicle dynamics engineering teams. You will work closely with our vehicle dynamics engineers to identify avenues and generate proof of concept scrips to integrate machine learning as part of the vehicle dynamics development process.

Responsibilities:

·  Mapping Python variables to simulation software parameters.
·  Advancing the development of our existing Python automation scripts.
·  Working in tandem with software vendors to craft necessary development tools.
·  Working with data pertaining to vehicle dynamics recorded on physical vehicles
·  Performing statistical analysis on large datasets of vehicle data logs relating to the steering, suspension & braking systems
·  Applying fundamental machine learning principles to develop new methods of estimating parameters relating to vehicle motion, combining data generated from simulation and data gathered from physical tests

Who You Are

You're a Computer Science student with a solid foundation in Python (or a comparable language), ready to dive into a stimulating and fast-paced environment. Your aim is to broaden your engineering knowledge across multiple disciplines (mechanical, electrical, software, design, production, etc.). You are willing to bring new ideas relating to machine learning and data analytics to the table and work on generating proof of concept scripts. As a key player in the GTT engineering team, you'll work closely with our engineers, embodying GTT's ethos of collaboration and continuous learning. We're committed to fostering your growth and offering you a glimpse into the manufacturing industry's business operations. You will be under the guidance of the group manager for Steering, Axles, and Wheel-Ends.

Required:

·  Currently enrolled and pursuing a Computer Science degree at an accredited institution, having completed at least 30 semester hours of undergraduate coursework.
·  Academic projects/coursework relating to machine learning or data analytics.
·  Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.
·  Co-ops are not enrolled in academic courses during their co-op rotation and may work up to 40 hours per week

For all intern and co-op positions, the hourly range is set at $16.00 - $46.00. The hourly rate for these roles is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, academic classification, and degree seeking area of study.
