Who we are

The Cab Analysis group is a dynamic team of highly competent engineers who specialize in various disciplines. We are responsible for ensuring functional requirements are met for durability & reliability, crash safety, aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, NVH, and materials science for heavy duty trucks developed for North America. Our team, Cab Engineering, is a crucial part of the Vehicle Engineering function within Volvo Group Trucks Technology (GTT), a division of Volvo Group North America. Cab Engineering North America has the responsibility for delivering Cab Projects, Cab Architecture solutions and Cab Features for the Mack Truck and Volvo Truck brands. We develop new and advanced cab solutions for our future trucks while continually adapting our current products to new and different market and customer demands. Working in an international environment is an exciting challenge which is placing more and higher demands on our employees.

We are looking for a talented and customer-focused engineer that can effectively communicate with other component stakeholders across the whole organization to ensure that the components and systems will meet the performance and life expectancy of the solutions necessary to exceed customer expectations.

What you will do

As a Co-op - CAE Structural Analysis, you will be primarily responsible for evaluating the strength and durability of various components and sub-systems of heavy duty trucks, and running complete vehicle simulations to ensure durability and fatigue requirements for North American products are met. You will work closely with various engineering teams to coordinate and lead complex simulation tasks and also interface directly with the testing group to develop confidence and improve correlation between analysis and physical verification to create accurate digital twin models. In addition, you will act as a technical leader in coordinating and driving design changes with various functional stakeholders.

Responsibilities

•    Conduct CAE analysis of components, sub-systems, and complete vehicle simulations to optimize the strength and durability of components for Volvo and Mack Trucks
•    Introduce creative techniques and methodologies to create digital twin virtual models integrating virtual reality into our design and verification methods
•    Perform validation studies comparing CAE results to experimental data and improve current methodologies and drive digital twin implementation
•    Work with engineering, testing, and project teams to plan, develop, and coordinate test plans, provide instrumentation roadmaps, and interpret test data to make design recommendations
•    Synthesize information from a variety of resources (simulation/test results, technical requirements, historical data etc.) and identify areas of improvement for various functional aspects of heavy duty trucks, and form actionable technical recommendations for stakeholders across the engineering organization
•    Champion quality and effectiveness of best practices, tools, and methods
•    Own the analysis until there is an acceptable outcome from all project stake-holders
•    Work cooperatively with cross-functional teams to translate and interpret durability, crash, and NVH feature demands into tangible design targets
•    Communicate results effectively to project and feature leaders across the organization
