Stage Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine) Sales
Job description
Internship : Development of a technico-economic study model for direct CO2 removal technologies - F/M
Technip Energies - Together, pushing back the boundaries to shape a sustainable future
Technip Energies is a leading engineering and technology company serving the energy transition, with leading positions in Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), hydrogen and ethylene, and a strong presence in the growth markets of blue and green hydrogen, sustainable chemistry, floating offshore wind turbines and CO2 capture and storage. The company benefits from its solid project delivery model, supported by an extensive offering of technologies, products and services.
Backed by our commitments to Diversity & Inclusion and Sustainable Development (here), with a presence in 35 countries, our 15,000 employees are fully committed to bringing our customers' innovative projects to life, pushing back the boundaries of what is possible to accelerate the energy transition to a better future.
Technip Energies is a leading engineering and technology company dedicated to the energy transition.
Proposed missions:
You will work within the Technology and Innovation organization, a team of technology managers and experts whose mission, under the responsibility of the CTO, is to drive innovations, explore new concepts and/or partnerships, develop technologies, and oversee the R&D programs that will take them through to industrialization and market launch.
Among the solutions identified as necessary to achieve carbon neutrality is the direct elimination of CO2 from the air. This can take several forms: "nature-based" capture methods, such as reforestation or soil cultivation and management; technological methods, such as direct capture from ambient air or indirect capture from the ocean; and hybrid methods, such as advanced cultivation, bioenergy with CO2 capture and sequestration (BECCS) or mineralization.
Technip Energies is seeking to understand how ocean CO2 capture can be effectively leveraged, and with what technologies, without compromising the company's ESG values.
The objectives of the internship will be :
Study the impact of reducing CO2 in the air by capturing CO2 in the oceans, and synthesize the various viewpoints available among climate and carbon cycle experts.
Propose a simple carbon cycle model based on available research.
Research and evaluate the range of technologies currently proposed to capture CO2 from the oceans, and bring about a reduction in the concentration of CO2 in the air.
In particular, the criteria will establish which technologies may have other negative and/or deleterious effects despite CO2 capture (risks to ecosystems, etc.).
Understand the techno-economic model of attractive technologies and the main obstacles.
To achieve this, your various missions will involve building :
An analysis of the work and knowledge currently available on the carbon cycle (IPCC, IPCC, etc.):
In coordination with technology managers, T&I, understand and propose carbon cycle modeling and explore areas of interest for Technip Energies. The work will be based on an exploration of the scientific literature and the main communications on the subject, in order to synthesize them.
Develop the model in the form of a simple spreadsheet to popularize the subject.
Evaluate the interest of the proposed solutions on the different points of the carbon chain, the different balances on the surface of the globe, etc.
Among the EDC methods available, show their impact on the carbon cycle. Among them, position the potential role of DAC and Ocean Based Carbon Capture among the most considered (Reforestation, Enhanced Weathering, etc.).
An analysis of currently proposed technologies and solutions for ocean CO2 capture, and their potential benefits.
In coordination with the T&I technology managers, explore the available literature and reports, in connection with the deep dive exercises carried out by the incubation managers.
Explore the world of start-ups developing solutions.
Present each solution according to its technology and its performance in CO2 removal, depending for example on energy consumption.
In particular, identify the negative effects beyond CO2 removal (harm to the environment, to resources, to people).
Use a simple methodology to compare proposed solutions and analyze the risk-benefit ratio. Discuss the economic relevance and drawbacks of different technologies. Recommend the most attractive solutions.
Discuss the economic model of Ocean Based Carbon Capture versus other EDC solutions.
Present the study and its two parts.
Write a summary report.
Present the results of the study.
Prepare and participate in presentations on the findings.
