Senior Java and AI Engineer

Position Description:

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Java Developer with 8+ years of hands-on experience and 2+ years of experience in Generative AI / LLM-based solutions to join our team in a permanent full-time role based in Bedford (4 days per week onsite at client location).

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Java backend development, Kubernetes, scalable system design, and API integrations, along with deep knowledge of prompt engineering and MCP protocol.

This role requires experience building high-availability, low-latency systems and working in complex enterprise environments, preferably within Capital Markets or Compliance Surveillance platforms.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

• Design and document API integrations with third-party vendor systems
• Develop data ingestion and processing pipelines (email, chat, audio)
• Collaborate with business, compliance, and audit teams
• Troubleshoot integration and performance issues
• Ensure security, scalability, and performance of applications
• Conduct performance testing and optimization
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring
• Support production systems (Level 2 support)

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

• 8+ years of Java development experience
• 2+ years of experience with Generative AI / LLM solutions
• Strong expertise in Java (Streams, Collections, Multithreading, JVM)
• Hands-on experience with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and JPA
• Experience designing scalable, high-availability, low-latency systems
• Strong API development experience (authentication, authorization, error handling)
• Experience with Kubernetes and containerized application deployment
• Familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub, Ansible)
• Strong understanding of machine learning fundamentals and prompt engineering
• Experience with MCP protocol and building LLM-based solutions

Nice to Have
• Capital Markets or Compliance Surveillance domain experience
• Experience with Kafka or JMS
• Exposure to Big Data platforms
• Knowledge of enterprise integration patterns

CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $65,000–$125,000. This role is an existing vacancy.

Use of the term ‘engineering’ in this job posting refers to the technical sense related to Information Technology (IT) and does not imply that the individual practices engineering or possesses the requisite license as prescribed by the applicable provincial or territorial engineering regulator. We are seeking individuals with expertise in IT engineering-related functions, but licensure from an engineering regulator is not a prerequisite for this position. Engineering is a regulated profession in Canada which is restricted in terms of use of titles and designation.
