Role Description

 

In this role, you will report to the Head of Technical Strategy and take the lead in implementing the technical claims strategy to drive both customer satisfaction and business success. You will provide essential technical leadership to the Core Claims Handling (CCH) Team and managing high-value claims, ensuring that standards consistently reflect best practices.

 

With substantial financial authority, you will manage the most complex and high-value claims within your specialism. Collaboration will be a key part of your role, as you work closely with claims experts and wider teams to deliver targeted technical training and share knowledge across the business.

 

You will also play a vital role in providing insights that enhance account performance. Supporting customer claim reviews, tenders, and broker presentations, you will bring technical expertise to the forefront, strengthening relationships and helping the business stay competitive.

 

This is a role based in one of our Birmingham, London or Milton Keynes offices, with the expectation to be on site 1 day. Other UK offices would be considered.

Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.

 

About You

 

  • Supporting the Head of Technical Strategy in developing and implementing the technical claims strategy across teams.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders, including Fraud, Actuaries, Underwriting, and Procurement, to optimise strategy execution, supplier performance, spend, and savings.
  • Acting as senior oversight for technical referrals within the Financial Authorities framework and deputising for the Head of Technical Strategy at strategic meetings.
  • Leading and developing a small team of Technical Strategy Specialists managing major and complex losses, while owning specific LoB skills matrices.
  • Providing expert technical leadership in your area of specialism, including understanding claims impact on the P&L and overseeing the largest, most complex claims.
  • Ensuring claims recovery practices meet internal standards by coordinating with legal providers and recommending process improvements to reduce risk and error.
  • Driving delivery of strategic projects and priorities, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities, and making recommendations to the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Supporting business propositions through customer and broker claim reviews, tenders, and forum presentations.
  • Promoting and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Allianz SE Munich, industry counterparts, and ABI or other industry forums.
  • Overseeing the selection and performance of professional service providers within the area of specialism.
  • Serving as the LoB technical lead for Claims Standards, analytics, and machine learning development.

 

Essential Skills

 

  • Proven expertise in technical knowledge and case law within your specialism, with strong alignment to regulatory and consumer duty requirements.
  • Extensive knowledge of Allianz claims standards, business practices, and market dynamics.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, able to flex style, lead by example, and focus on performance, development, and engagement.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, with the ability to own solutions and think creatively.
  • Ability to coach, develop others, and lead training initiatives effectively.
  • Excellent analytical skills, including working with data to identify trends and drive performance improvements.
  • Confident presentation and public speaking skills, with experience engaging at industry forums and committees.
  • Proven operational management experience in fast-paced, regulated environments, with strong stakeholder management and negotiation abilities.
  • Experience in driving change, embracing innovation, and working collaboratively with supply chain and wider teams to improve outcomes.
  • Resilient and highly organised, able to prioritise multiple tasks and thrive under pressure.

Desirable Skills

 

  • Dip CII/ACII/CILA or considerable progress towards a suitable industry qualification.
