World Leader in Blood Glucose Monitoring, Abbott Diabetes Care designs, develops and manufactures glucose monitoring systems for use in both home and hospital settings.
We have a Centre of Excellence in Witney for the manufacture of electrodes and biosensors used by patients and healthcare professionals for the day-to-day management of diabetes. The Operations group is the largest team in the Witney facility, producing high volumes of test strips and biosensors each year to the stringent quality standards demanded by European and US authorities and our internal quality systems.
As a result of strong business growth, industry-leading product development in the biosensor business and a long-term commitment to high volume manufacturing in our Witney Centre of Excellence, we have a number of opportunities for multi-skilled Support Engineers to join our Operations Group, working within the biosensor manufacturing area of the business.
The role of the Support Engineer is to provide first class customer support to the Operations team. This is achieved by performing Preventive Maintenance activities, responding effectively to breakdowns, monitoring equipment performance and providing valuable input to help maintain process yields and efficiencies. Our Support Engineers also provide assistance to the Projects Team in implementing changes to equipment.
Working on a rotating day & night flexi-shift pattern (4 of 8) or permanent nights (4 of 8), you will be working in a clean room environment providing technical expertise to fault find, maintain and continually improve bespoke PLC-controlled automated equipment and processes.
Continuous Improvement is an important part of our site's culture, so you will also have the opportunity to propose or contribute to initiatives and projects that improve our operations.
To be successful, you will need experience of Engineering within a manufacturing environment, specifically experience and skills in fault finding and problem solving on high volume and high-tech equipment.
Experience with any of the following would be an advantage, but is not essential as, due to the bespoke nature of our equipment, in-house training will be given:
- Laser cutting & marking
- Micro fluid deposition
- Vision systems
- Complex mechanical assemblies
- Working in a regulated industry (e.g. pharma, medical device)
You will need to have completed a recognised Engineering apprenticeship or have a higher education qualification (such as a HNC, HND or degree) in a related subject.
You will also need to be able to demonstrate a track record of accomplishing your objectives, working proactively, and managing your own time effectively.
As we operate in a highly-regulated industry, you must be able to demonstrate the ability to follow procedures and create accurate documents and records of your work.
This is a fantastic opportunity to become a valued member of a highly skilled Engineering team working with brand new state-of-the-art automation in a fast growing area of our business. Engineering skill is key to us, with members working in areas including projects, process, production, systems, software, R&D and machine vision. We also have our own fully equipped workshop.
As you'd expect from an innovative global health care company, we offer a competitive range of benefits including excellent salaries (plus shift allowance), a class-leading defined contribution pension scheme, private healthcare, life assurance, subsidised canteen and a flexible benefits scheme. Relocation assistance considered.
