We are recruiting for a Software Engineer I for our offices in Sale, Greater Manchester.
Primary Function:
Participate in a team-oriented environment to develop user interface, business rules, data management or embedded system control applications.
Provide technical capabilities for planning and implementing system installation, upgrade, configuration, and related change control and verification activities for Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and oversee execution within the area of responsibility. Provide day-to-day support including problem resolution and coordination of operational activities. Research & evaluate alternative solutions and make recommendations for improved system operations.
Core Job Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the technical manager to engineer customer driven solution s and to meet the market requirements.
• Execute software development life cycle activities from software requirements, design and implementation through testing and documentation while maintaining compliance to the development plans and practices.
•Uphold coding and documentation standards for project and/or product and manage deliverables for area of responsibility.
• Follow installation, upgrade, configuration, and operating procedures for complex and multiple systems and support training and coaching of personnel on these practices.
• Understand business impact of supported systems, establish and maintain technical support service levels and ensure that they are being met on a regular basis.
• Understand and apply the use of database monitoring and querying tools (i.e. TOAD, SQL).
• Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures
Communication
Requires strong analytical and communication skills as well as sound judgment and the ability to work effectively with Business Analysts, Software Developers and customers.
Very good oral and written communication skills.
Accountability
General
• Accountable for meeting deliverable commitments including schedule and quality compliance.
Product Development
• Under direction of Technical Manager, execute against product development plan to implement product improvements, add new features, and resolve product issues/bugs.
• Thoroughly test and document work with preparation of detailed Functional Requirements Specifications and Software Design Specifications.
• Create and update Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs).
Customer Support
• Maintain high customer service by assisting support with customer issue resolution and coordinate inclusion of customer issue resolution with product/ project patches and releases.
Project Execution
• Function as project implementation engineer.
• Install STARLIMS software and configure STARLIMS core product to address customer functional and workflow requirement.
• Coordinate with Project Manager and vertical product team to investigate alternatives to maximize the leverage of the out of the box capabilities and to provide timely feedback on product defects and product enhancement opportunities.
• Prepare and deliver prototype demos as functionality is configured and document and adjust based on customer feedback.
• Occasional travel as required per project assignment.
Education:
B.S. in Computer Science or similar engineering discipline including Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering
Experience:
• Programming: strong SQL capabilities and programming concepts.
• Knowledge/Experience with Oracle client and Microsoft SQLServer (configuration/ troubleshooting multiple application connections from Oracle/MS workstation clients to various Oracle/MS databases).
• Quality System: Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) management, Validation and Qualification, Administration of regulated applications, Change Management (data and configuration), System and Network Security, Disaster Recovery.
• Documentation: SDLC Documentation, Installation Instructions, Change Requests, Test Protocols and Training Materials,
• Knowledge of Laboratory Information Management Systems and laboratory operations is strongly preferred.
• System and Application Monitoring: NetIQ, TOAD, Oracle, development of automated monitoring and support processes and procedures.
