The Opportunity

This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL (Lake Bluff, IL) location in the Core Lab Division. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments and informatics systems are often the first step in patient care decision making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.

As the Planning Specialist , you’ll provide production planning/scheduling, inventory management, or distribution support to maintain production operations and customer product availability.

What You’ll Work On

· 
Determine production plan for one or more product pipelines and ensure plan is feasible. Recommend alternate action to be taken if the master production schedule is missed.

· 
Forecast material requirements for finished goods, intermediate materials, and raw materials. Develop procurement strategies for internal and external supplies compatible with economic, supply and quality goals; understand raw materials needs and translate these needs into inventory plans and strategies. Manage inventory and planned goods usage between goods receipt and consumption/disposal.

· 
Translate requirements into a feasible production supply plan. Monitor and drive activities in multiple work centers based on production plan. When necessary, respond to unplanned demand or quality problems and/or update production schedules to meet changing priorities. Act as liaison between other departments to minimize impact on schedules of changes in product structures or internal quality issues.

· 
Review/analyze trends and adjust planning parameters to optimize production and/or inventory outcomes. When necessary, creates simulation models which integrate manufacturing needs from multiple areas. Utilize specialized knowledge in areas such as manufacturing resource planning, capacity planning, master scheduling, customer service and inventory management.

· 
Makes plans to accomplish assigned activities and projects, establishes priorities to handle competing demands, optimizes use of available resources, estimates time and resources necessary to complete tasks or projects.

· 
Identifies project resource requirements, establishes milestones and success factors, monitors progress, and adjusts plans to ensure that deadlines are met, and results achieved.

· 
Interprets large amounts of data extracted from ERP system; draws conclusions and recommends options to achieve objectives; identifies problems or issues and recommends actions to address them.

· 
Implements Activities executes and revises plans as needed to accomplish assigned individual tasks to meet expectations (cost, performance, quality, time).

· 
Implements Plan; implements changes or improvements and incorporates into the routine operations of the organization; ensures that there are no loose ends, reviews open issues to improve long term success, (reviews/revises operating procedures, change requests, etc.) incorporates into the day-to-day operations of the area.

· 
Gathers Financial Data: Identifies and gathers financial information to assist in decision making; recognizes the type of information relevant to the issues under study and identifies sources.

· 
Identifies Cost Reductions: Utilizes financial and other information to identify cost reduction opportunities and to implement and manage cost reduction projects.

· 
Shares information with appropriate frequency and timeliness to benefit the receiver, distributes background information prior to meetings, allows for adequate response time when making requests, keeps parties potentially affected by decisions apprised of events.

· 
Constructively contributes to the decision-making process of the work team and supports the team's decision.

· 
Actively shares resources, ideas, and data to accomplish goals requiring cross-functional collaboration and support.

· 
Champions process improvements or new processes that improve productivity.

· 
Evaluates the risks associated with various alternatives such as the use of internal resources versus outsourcing, trade-offs regarding people and investments, and resource allocation, recommends actions and develops responses to cope with various scenarios.

· 
Builds models and analytical tools to anticipate the future and to recommend actions to meet future business challenges.

Required Qualifications

· 
Bachelor's Degree: BA, BBA, or BS required.

· 
3-5 years' experience directly relevant to the area.

· 
Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologics.

· 
Experience includes manufacturing environment, experience with financial modeling and analysis, knowledge of materials and inventory computer systems, thorough understanding of planning / inventory management systems and policies, demonstrated project leadership.

· 
Experience with SAP or other ERP system required.

Preferred Qualifications

· 
APICS Certification a plus.

· 
Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologics.

The base pay for this position is
$72,700.00 – $145,300.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
