Abbott is a global healthcare leader that helps people live more fully at all stages of life. Our portfolio of life-changing technologies spans the spectrum of healthcare, with leading businesses and products in diagnostics, medical devices, nutrition, and branded generic medicines. Our 109,000 colleagues serve people in more than 160 countries.
At Abbott, we believe that new ideas come from different places and points of view. To achieve our ambitions, we're actively shaping our organization for the future by prioritizing diversity and inclusion, advancing STEM education and internships, and empowering our teams with skills to meet the health needs of tomorrow.
World Leader in Blood Glucose Monitoring, Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) designs, develops and manufactures glucose monitoring systems for use in both home and hospital settings.
We have a Centre of Excellence in Witney for the development and manufacture of electrodes and biosensors used by patients and healthcare professionals for the day-to-day management of diabetes. The site has been instrumental in the research, development and manufacture of the FreeStyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System as well as exciting developments in the Libre family including FreeStyle Libre 2, FreeStyle Libre 3 and the Libre Sense system. We are passionate about doing work that improves the quality of people’s lives.
The Role
As a result of strong business growth, industry-leading product development in the biosensor business and a long-term commitment to high volume manufacturing in our Witney Centre of Excellence, we have an opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our Operations Group, working within the biosensor manufacturing area of the business.
Supporting our commitment to continued development of our teams, we are open to this role being at either Junior Project Engineer or Project Engineer level.
The role of the Project Engineer is to provide support and assistance with Engineering projects and other activities, whether this be managing process equipment validations categorised as critical to the business, or collaborating, communicating and developing good relationships with internal engineering functions, other ADC departments, external suppliers and external regulatory bodies. Continuous Improvement is an important part of our site’s culture and as such, you will be heavily involved in proposing and contributing to initiatives and projects that improve our operations.
You will be able to own project tasks and deliverables, responsible and committed to ensure that agreed project deliverables meet the requirements. You will manage complex capital projects with suppliers and subcontractors, collaborating with different stakeholders across the business in an inclusive and dynamic work environment.
You will need to, minimally, have completed a HNC or HND in an engineering subject and ideally bring experience of Project Engineering or Project Management within a manufacturing environment. You may have engineering/technical experience, for example, understanding technical drawings, databases or use of CAD systems. You may like problem solving, thinking creatively, designing tests and experiments for validation, and look to develop and learn in the role. You may also have experience of quality / regulatory systems within Medical Devices (or Pharmaceuticals), although this is not essential. You will be PC literate, and ideally offer experience of managing projects and adapting well to changing situations, either through industry experience or academic studies.
As we operate in a highly-regulated industry, you must be able to demonstrate the ability to follow procedures and create accurate documents and records of your work.
This is a fantastic opportunity to become a valued member of a highly skilled Engineering team working with brand new state-of-the-art automation in a fast-growing area of our business. Engineering skill is key to us, with members working in areas including projects, process, production, systems, software, R&D and machine vision. We also have our own fully equipped workshop.
In addition to a competitive salary, Abbott offers a highly attractive benefits package which includes a defined-contribution pension scheme, a share ownership scheme, private healthcare, life assurance, and a flexible benefits scheme which you can tailor to your own requirements. Of course, things are a little different right now, but in general, we like to help our employees live life to the fullest, and therefore we offer a range of optional initiatives for you to get involved in, including onsite allotments, couch to 5k campaigns, bee keeping, yoga and more!
